Looks like my $2014 Challenge car is going need some 1 3/8" DOM tubing.

Any ideas for saving on the budget looking for this?

Best ways to ID it in a junkyard, etc?? I know to look for the seams, but....

How much do you need and what lengths? I might have some, have to look.

This. I may have access to some depends on what scrap I can get to.

80-100', in many varying lengths. I will need a couple very long pieces.

I might be able to go with a different dia... trying to balance all the rules and regs.

I ant to keep it light. I want to be SCCA legal. I need to get by with the NHRA inspectors- probably run deep 12's. Open car.

Still not committed to the 1.375".

Damn. On the new market, that's like... $600-$700 in piping.

LOL

Marmon Keystone is the place. They might have a cut length on the shelf that sometimes they'll sell cheaper.

Yep.

I've told you all you need to know about my project. After that, I'd have to kill you.

100 feet of 1.375 DOM?!? What are you building, a tank? Deathproof tribute car? NASCAR replica?

Seriously, that's way beyond any rule requirements for $2014. Are you sure? DOM is not cheap, and not necessary in many cases.

Ha! I just spent my lunch break calling around for quotes on 80 feet of 1.5" 0.095 wall DOM. The best price I found so far is Team Tube, but it looks like their closest location to you is Chicago. You might also try EMJ (Earl M. Jorgensomething). I'm looking at just over $4/foot delivered...rough on the ol' challenge budget!

How much does 100 feet of 1.375 DOM weigh?

Will this secret car be 30 ft long? That's a lot of tubing. A rail dragster front end on a Yugo body? I suspect that your actual need for "the good stuff" DOM tubing will be a lot less.

No.

It's a random answer to a somewhat random question knowing full well that if I find it at a great price, it's going to be an assorted pile of random stuff that I am only going to be able to use 50% of, but in Challenge dollars that's OK, because only half of it will be on the car.

It was a long way of saying, "Darned if I know, but probably quite a bit more than you have tossed under the bench in your shop".

Argo1, nobody knows what I am up to better than you.

Heh, we just got in 3140' of DOM today.

No kidding it's expensive , especially since I'm picky and get the high-elongation impact-tested stuff.

Did you order direct online from EJM, or via their Portland location?

I called the Portland location. That price is will call, so I will pick it up (they can cut it for easier transport)

Our purchaser gets some pretty good rates, especially since they send out their own trucks to get it.

Bet you pay for the cut. I never have it cut cause with my luck I'd end up needing a section 2 inches longer...
