Can the oil pump for an SR20 be changed while the engine is still in the car? Or will the engine need to be removed to do this? The car in question is a 1999 Sentra SE.

On a RWD SR the answer is yes, no problem.

FWD like yours though I'm afraid I have no idea... sorry

Sure, I've replaced the timing cover on my IT car and as you know the pump is in the timing cover.
Remove (pull carefully) crank pulley, whatever else is in the way and unbolt cover.
It's a little tight over there, but you'll get used to that with that car (if you aren't already). Why are you replacing the pump? Low oil pressure combined with wishful thinking? Check your sender if that's the case.

I'm looking at a '99 SE that has 126K on it and while I had a nearly trouble-free mid '90s G20, folks on here say the high mileage SR20s have trouble-prone oil pumps....just wondered how difficult it was to change out.
