theyre cheap and easily availible for my protege5. i need struts, and want to lower it a little. these are 1.3 inch lowering springs.
the car will probably not be autocrossed more than once a year. mostly my daily/family car.
really, im wondering about the quality. these things are cheap. but cheap is only good if it lasts and does the job it needs to. its not cheap if you have to replace it within 40k.....
ive googled around a bit, and everyone seems to like the stagg struts. havent read about many failures. but then again, i havent seen many long term high milage reports either.
the vogtland springs i cant seem to find any info on whatsoever. i know the name sounds familiar to me, but have no idea why.
anyway, what does the GRM faithful think? personally, i think ~375 total for struts and springs is a pretty good deal, though is it for the long run?
Stagg SHS struts in particular seem to be a bargain.
Vogtlands, the Celica guys used to run them all the time because they were cheap. Never really heard any sort of complaint.
I've had Vogtlands (with KYBs) on my e30 for several years now on E36 M3ty Tucson roads, all is well.
I've had them on my Focus for better part of a year, great on that too.
My other experience is H&Rs on the e21 (great springs, a little stiff for an old guy...), and long ago, Suspension Techniques on my Z-car.
I'm a Vogtland fan-boi.

Suspension reviews are like tire reviews a lot of people think stuff is good when its really junk, because they have never had actual good parts.
When stagg first came out the had a lot of qc problems like struts leaking immediately and struts breaking. Haven't heard much of this lately though.
They are probably be better than what you have but who knows if they are actually good.
Vogtland uses a lighter coil material than most coil manufacturers.
How much more is a known good setup, I'd say a good suspension setup is mod important on a dd since your stuck in it everyday
Bring back an old thread. Any more info/experience on the Stagg stuff 3 years on?
Looking for a inexpensive strut and shock for a 96 Tercel that can handle some tbd stiffer springs, as duster mentioned in the original post, these are cheap and available.
I pounded 75k on the stagg struts. I didn't buy the springs, i trimmed coils instead.
In 75k, i never had a complaint. They were still mint when the car demanufactured the engine.
They ARE stiffer valved than stock.

Vogtland might sound familiar because Vorshlag is a long time GRM advertiser.
I ended up going with a set on my DD/rallycross P5 and have no issues with them about 6months in, I am also on stock springs so can’t say anything about that, but almost anything was going to be better then the 170k OE kyb’s
I still like Vogtland many moon on now.
No idea on those struts, but if I have anything coming up, I'll have to look at them. I'm pretty fond of KYBs, though.
