Noticed in the S197 article that  Terry Fair of Vorshlag commented:

“The S197 has one of the best ABS systems we’ve seen,” Terry says. “That 2011-’14 system is what we swap on other cars.”

Sounds like another retrofit option.  Couldn't find any details for a swap though.

Of course after posting something, then I find results.

Sounds like the guy likes the S197 module better than the MK60??

At about the 1:29 point he mentions the MK60 and how the S197 unit cycles more aggressively.

We installed a '05 325 MK60 in our Lemons Volvo 745 with stock calipers/ST43 pads.  Just a plain 325 unit, not a M3.  We raced with it at Buttonwillow last weekend.  Going from no ABS to the 325 MK60 was an incredible upgrade.  Thank you to those that contributed to this forum post.

Yes, the S197 ABS is another fairly common ABS install on some platforms, and Vorshlag has made claims that it's better than a MK60. I have not yet seen definitive test results that proved that, and you are unlikely to. The test that proves that one is better than the other requires both ABS systems to be installed in the same car, on the same tires, under the same conditions. Vorshlag has done some testing but they were always using different cars and different tires, so I don't feel that it really proves anything. I personally believe that they're pretty similar in performance, but again, I haven't seen them tested them back to back. They may each have their pros and cons. One pro over the E46 MK60 is that there are no external pressure sensors that need to be plumbed in, but that pro is negated on the E1/E5 MK60 variants.

Thanks!

No argument.  To be clear, I wasn't trying to post it as a "better" solution, only as another option I hadn't heard of before.  Yes, I posted that Terry seemed like it better, but I wasn't meaning to imply that it was better.

My limited research does suggest that the S197 module might have an advantage in price and availablity, too.  Sounds like at least for a time there where motorsport modules for half the cost of an M3 flash, but no idea if they still exist.  At the very least, the MK60 stuff seems to have gotten fairly popular (e.g. expensive) so a different source might be a good thing.

In the end, I don't think I can use either one as I need to feed road speed to my G3 Hemi PCM so I plan to use a MK25 out of a '09 Challenger SRT8 6M and see how it goes.  BTW, no brake pressure sensors need in those either.  The Challenger HCU doesn't have wheel speed outputs so it must be on the CANBus which means I have to keep it all in the same family unless I want to roll my own converter of some type.

Here's some additional info on an S197 ABS swap Vorshlag did.  This is on their S550 LS swapped Mustang.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TovZbkRe2Hc

Sounds like the '11-14 units need the yaw sensor but with that they can be retrofitted.

He mentioned the 302R/302S module from Ford Motorsport being hard to find.  I found posts about them being out of stock, but I also found a Ford website that let me get all the way to paying for one without saying it was out of stock so maybe they made more?  And they seem to be $400-450 for the control module only.  I guess that module doesn't need a yaw sensor to be retrofitted and it has absolutely no TC or stability built into it.

Looks like an '07-09 GT500 unit is another good option.

Here is a thread with some wiring and info.

I guess there is an FP350S module as well?  Looks more expensive and not sure it is an easy standalone swap.
