We go back a long time with Michael Pettiford, and this morning two of his haulers were stolen. His Go 4 It school is based in Boulder, Colorado.

The good news is that they should be visible from space, likely jammed into an intersection.

Two 5th wheels stolen on the same day???

I dont know him or his organization but that seems like an inside job, or, at least a highly staked out operation.  Doesn't seem like the usual "opportunity theft" where the bad guy just happen to come across the opportunity and acted on it.

Neither of these trailers are exactly what you'd call "common" trailers either. Not easily repurposed for something like home remodeling.

They are both very impressive trailers!

Were they empty or did they get cars and stuff too?

Oh man, I hope they were empty. Trailers are a lot easier to replace than modified cars. Michael is good people and doesn't deserve this.

Were the trucks attached?   I can imagine stealing the rigs just for the trucks.  THe trailers would be hard to hide or fence.

My first thought was it was the bank's repo man.   wink

Mine too.  Hope he gets everything back in one piece.

In post #1 does the orange C8 look gigantic compared even to the truck pulling the trailer?  Makes the C7 look like a midget.  Or is it some camera lens distortion?

In reply to Purple Frog (Forum Supporter) :

That trailer is so huge that the C8 is about a half a mile closer to the camera than the C7.

Okay, yeah, that C8 does look pretty big.

This may be a good time to do an article on trailer tracking devises - if such a thing exists.

Great to hear of one truck and two trailer recovery!

So, the trucks were attached then?    If so, then this may have been a "opportunity theft" where a truck was more of the target.

Do we know if anything was on/in the trailers?

The other truck is probably out stealing trailers right now.

Paint your trailer so it's not just another white blob,

maybe put the license number on the roof......

Glad to see he got his back......

Mike is local to me and, indeed, a really good guy. Everyone in the area knows him and he's probably done advanced driver training or race training for more than half of us.

Awful this happened and really glad he got his most of his stuff back. Not a good indicator of the world we live in.

Around here, it seems that trailer thieves rarely want the actual trailer or even the race car inside it, because those are too hard to sell.  They're usually after the tools.

But yes, glad it was recovered, hopefully not too badly damaged!

When I was running a trucking freight hub we used load locks.  The locks went on trucks that went to other company hubs.  We often would not get them back.  We painted them pink and they started coming back.

Maybe paint the trailers / trucks pink so they really stand out.

You know, some big license numbers on the roof would make sense.

I bet a big old logo that a copter pilot would notice would also work . Gulf oil or Mobil horse etc

I think a check board roof would be pretty easy to paint ,

So racing checkered  flag with logo of choice......

Ouch. I'm not a huge fan of Apple, but their airtags are perfect for this - easy to hide and proven reliable.
