Arizona speed cameras bite the dust. I only went thru Arizona twice in the past couple of years, but these guys were everywhere.
This still won't do anything about the convoys of police officers lurking over the hills, but it does help.
I would say "Score one" for freedom. Thankfully we don't have to deal with that in TN but it warms my heart to hear someones fighting back and winning against the cash machines.
Now if we could all just drive responsibly on public roads...

I'm glad those are gone, I've only been to Phoenix once but I hated those things.
I have a friend who lives there and he said his friend would drive to work every morning with a gorilla mask on so when the speed cameras took his picture he just denied that it was him driving and never got a ticket.

On Iowa 380 That Goes through Cedar Rapids, They are installing speed cameras, plus a Red Jeep Grand Cherokee with Photo Radar.
This action is based on revenue generation. The Fixed Photo units are not located at busy dangerous intersections. They are not visible yellow units like those in AZ. Instead, they are installed in a concealing manner on the backside of the overhead exit marker gantries, and shoot you from behind.
Safety is one thing, greed is another.

Sounds like just the thing that the public of that area should go out and render nonfunctional.

They're just phasing them out for Latino-seeking cameras (am I really joking?)
My personal favorite ideas for the speed cameras are to wrap the camera in the clear plastic wrap or spray insulating foam on the inside.

Now if this could be extended to Cleveland, Ohio I could stop getting collection calls for a fine that I plan to never pay. It has been over two years.
Yeah, I meant to say Score one, not Strike one.
I'm betting they'll just use the camera trucks to mount radar to. When I was there the last time they used the trucks and parked them over the hill and used low power X band radar to catch people. If your radar detector still picked up the X band (grocery store band) you ignored it. I also got hit by laser several times near one of those things so I'm presuming they can shot laser from them as well, but I don't understand how they'd aim the thing.
Meanwhile in Maryland, we are installing them as fast as we can. Got a budget shortfall to make up!
D.C. added 12, an especially noxious one is after you clear the traffic jams on NY ave on the way home.
searched this old post to avoid re-post and find I was the last to post on it - i will be a dork!

And here in Rochester, NY they are just now ADDING 50 red light cameras, since NY State just got around to authorizing them. As usual, we're way behind the curve here.. At least the local County Legislature denied the City permission to mount them to County-owned poles. The City will still either only add them to City-owned poles at intersections or put them on their own poles at City expense. The City policitians engaged in the usual safety blather but at least the County legislature had the balls to see it as strictly a revenue grab.
I am ALL for red light cameras.. it's the speed cameras that I am against. Simply put.. everyone speeds now and again. It is impossible not too. Either you get a little distracted, the speed limit changes, or just trying to stay away from an idiot on the road... Most people will realize quickly that they are speeding and slow down.. (usually that is where I get caught.. JUST as I realize)
people who run redlights... that is usually something you have to work at
A longer yellow light is safer than a red light camera that has the yellow shortened to raise revenue. The municipality sees very little of the money, most goes to the camera operators. It is bad business.

mad machine needs to read up on red light cameras...they are EVIL, are purely for revenue generation under the guise of safety and their presence actually causes increases in accidents at equipped intersections as people slam on the brakes during a yellow to avoid the ticket.
Everything you could want to know about red light cameras
well.. I have read stories of municipalities speeding up the yellow cycle on their lights when redlight cameras are employed.. in that I agree they are evil.
has anyone ever done a test of the sprays that supposedly make the license unreadable ..??
