I want this. It's already close by to me.
I shouldn't have been on craigslist typing GLHS in like I did in Atlanta. I wasn't expecting any results here but there it is. I have an unreasonable affection for these pieces of E36 M3.

There was one local to me a few weeks ago for around 2k. DFW.
I dont even really like them. I wanted it
I bought some parts off one that was in Hawaii.
This was decades ago now though and the owner had moved to the mainland and was working on shipping the car and some spare parts to Cali.
The GLH is a seriously underrated car. A turbo dodge is a force to be reckoned with. To wit: the scaries.
A friend of mine was taking the dodge 2.2 turbo motors and going north of 400hp. This is long before the days of stand alone systems. Those are stout motors that can make a tone of power.

This is not a GLH. You have actual GLHS Shelby cars selling much less than $5k?
I drove a fast Galant VR-4 for many many years and I also loved the sleeper effect. Grand Nationals aren't sleepers, Syclones aren't sleepers, but these are still mostly unknown and fun enough stock.
As I get older, I dont even want to hot rod things anymore. Stock restorations and repair are exciting enough to me. I just like the idea and history of the cars and I don't need to put a 50 trim and a fmic on everything again. Been there and done that.
In reply to crankwalk:
I missed a glhs on craigslist for $850 with slight issues.
Many sads were had that day
Really though it's not a bad deal for a dream car price wise, if it's close and you can swing it I would definitely do it
How about the sleeker version? I had one of these in the mid '90s. I can't imagine the intervening 20 years has made them much better.
The GLHS is America personified: A weird mishmash of ill fitting parts that kicked everyone else's ass.

Thats too good of a glhs at this point to cut it up for a swap. Regular omni, basket case glh, sure. These things will be worth dough some day. Mopar guys only get weirder as time goes on.
That charger is a clone of my first car. Thing was so horrid it dang near killed any desire to have a car.

This. I'd like to just keep it all complete and original. I'm not drag racing anymore and If I was it wouldn't be turbo Dodges. I only like turbo Caravans and GLH(S) Omnis. The rest of them just don't do it for me. I know its essentially the same formula but whatever. There is also a pristine CSX red on gold that a guy DD's in the summer in Anchorage.
I'm not against keeping it stock but i'll still point out that if you're monitoring air/fuel ratio and knock sensor activity you can boost-controller a stock GLHS deep into the 13s in the 1/4 mile. Other than the tiny exhaust, the stock setup is good for high 12s at ~108 mph when pushed to the limit of its weakest link (arguably injector size).

The guys shelling out big money for the '60's and early '70's are dieing off. Guys like me, 20 years younger (gen X) are interested more in this type of stuff. We are finally getting settled and getting some disposable income too. Yes, these will increase in value.
There was a Daytona Turbo Z for sale for about $2500 locally at one point. It looked really nice. Should've bought it.
Yeah, that Omni is sweet. I'm not a Dodge guy at all, but these things definitely do it for me. I say get it and enjoy!
IMHO, this is one of the cars that will go on a list of appreciating cars. I know back in the day, I wanted one, too.
At some point, cars like this need to be Wheeler Dealer'd back to as original as possible. Plenty of cars to turn into GLH(S)s or something like them.
As bad as cars like this were in the 80's relative to other periods, they WERE the factory hot rods. Very cool.
mndsm wrote: What the hell is an omni of any vintage let alone a glhs doing in alaska?
When I lived in Fairbanks, AK in the early - mid 80's, front wheel drive was popular. Saw a lot of Omni/Horizons in Alaska then. I brought a new Sentra up there with me. Traded it on a K5 Blazer not because is needed 4X4, the front wheel drive went every place I wanted to go but because of mechanical issues with the Nissan and needed more room. Did do more off-roading since I did have a 4X4 though. Anchorage winters aren't as bad a Fairbanks. Things don't rust much up there and there are a lot of interesting vehicles tucked away in heated garages/storage there.

In deep snow, my Land Cruiser on 35s kicks ass. In regular snowy icy streets (90% of my driving), my wifes Prius C with studded Glacier Grips kicks MAJOR ass.
If the Omni guy will call me back Ill have a chat about the condition. It wouldn't be anything other than a summer driver here though. No doubt it would do great on snow tires but who wants to get creamed at a light by a teenager on a phone during a snowstorm.

Well Said! Says the original purchaser of #238.

I agree. My older brother had #423 and I had CSX #106 among many other versions of the Shelby Charger and GLH-T depending on what was running at the time and it is pretty damned accurate.
