Believe it or not, no.

I'm not particularly afraid of heights but some of that video made me a little queasy. If you went off on some of those corners you'd have a lot of time to think about it before you hit bottom.

I realize the size of the balls one must need to take on a challenge like that, but on the first half, and this could have just been based on camera angle, but didn't it seem like he was almost taking it... easy? I mean maybe I'm just being a tad bit too analytical, but it seemed like if he really wanted to, he could have dropped a few seconds easily, which honestly makes the sub-10 minute time even more impressive. also, it seemed like he was really fighting the car the whole way through, and it gave him a moment or two on the second half of the run when he really turned the wick up (compared to my perception of the "less than 10/10ths" first half anyway), which makes it simply amazing how fast he managed to get up the hill. kinda makes you feel sorry for Hyundai though, they built a whole new car with the sole purpose of going after that magic 10 minute barrier, probably cut down a whole new tree to get the clean sheet of paper, and for all their troubles, the current evolution of an old beast is the one that breaks 10 minutes.

once they get it all paved, I want to see a current-spec F1 car take on the hill, or better yet, a Porsche 917/30 Can-Am car, THAT would be a hoot and a half to watch and I'd almost be willing to bet the time would be down under 9 minutes.

I'm bummed that they are paving it all, the changes in road surface makes Pikes Peak much more entertaining and challenging. But yes, once it's paved I'd love to see an F1 car tackle the hill, but with a turbo of some sort to combat the altitude.

It's a shame the "race" ended the way it did. It was so built up all day, and Tajima goes out and breaks the number first one up. Then all Dallenbach can do is break a drive axle and Millen breaks his brakes.

I think they could all have been under 10 if it weren't for the failures. Millen said he was losing as much as 2 seconds per corner in the final quarter of the hill.

I was thinking the same as Slyp_Dawg and Wes. The straight bits were taken at warp-speed, but the corners (especially in the dirt) seemed to require some trepidation, (maybe to get the power down on the way out.)

Guess it's a case of smooth = fast, as the stopwatch doesn't lie.

When/if it happens, let's annoint GoPro with hero-status as the company has helped clean the gene pool........

Not at all, my point was it's an...unfortunate slogan for this product.

I think it's just the camera angle. Someone posted this on Jalopnik:

The most amazing thing about this run? Tajima DESTROYED the car! Seriously; when it got to the top of the hill fluid was gushing from the radiators. The motor and turbos where cooked, ruined. Tajima said that the car started overheating two miles into the 12 mile run. 9:51 is pretty much the fastest time that car could possibly have gone. It was physically incapable of giving up any additional performance. The Monster was totally in the zone, driving 11/10s the whole way up. He was so far beyond the limit it was just mesmerizing to witness first-hand. He went around the three corners that make up The Sump (where this pic was taken) as if it was one continuous bend. From start to finish he was on it the whole time. I heard from people at the starting point that it was the hardest launch any of them had ever witnessed; he exploded off the line and did not slow up for a nanosecond. By the time he was a couple hundred yards into the race he was already four seconds ahead of Rhys Millen.

Looking at how slow he was on the dirt, I bet the car was really heavily biased towards making time on the pavement.

His tires were shot at the end as well- after a really bad moment recovering from the ditch on the left by tip toeing along the precipice of certain death on the right was followed by some more "drifting", he backed way off. Gnarly Dude. I look at this sort of thing a feel very deeply I want nothing to do with it.

I personally do not find heavily edited stunt driving shot over the course of a couple three days around a bunch of neat little set up sections anywhere near as compelling and as downright terrifying as what goes on at pikes peak or at hill climbs and rallys. Not that the car and driver in the vid are not capable, it's just way different and much much much less hairy.

very wild to watch thats for sure. very cool to see that some one got the break they needed to beat the 10mit mark. cool that the monster did it after trying for years.

Those of you saying it was slow need to watch it again. It's worth watching again on a big screen where you can begin to appreciate the speed and dedication.
