I've got my eye on this one, came into the used car lot the other day. It has high km's (326,000) but runs well. It's not too rusty, one hole to fix for cert. I'm tempted to use it for Rallycross, though it is a bit of a beast but the real downside, it's automatic. I could work on my left foot braking...What do you guys think of these things. I like it a lot.

There's one signed up for NEDiv national challenge this coming weekend, so I'll let you know how it does.

Automatic would be a plus if it's a turbo model (to hold boost). Not a plus in an N/A model IMO.

Overall IIRC it's just an Outback without the rear cargo area. Outbacks do ok, but don't beat any GCs or WRXs assuming decent drivers.

On the upside, never have to put muddy rally tires inside the car for the trip home :)

Ive driven the na/auto and its blah. Turbo/auto is pretty ok, especially if you're going slow enough to be in 1st gear almost all the time. I dont think it's any kind of handicap for rallyX at all.

Stock turbo/auto makes just enough power to 'drift' 1st gear on dry pavement. Should be a riot on dirt.

This one is just an N/A auto. I had a Forester XT with an auto and it was fun but not having a manual trans was a big miss.

Here's our old Forester XT, still miss it even if it was automatic.

Automatic is way more better-er for rallycross, IMO. My next car is narrowed down to either a '08 WRX or '09 2.5GT, depending on what I find first when I am ready to pull the trigger, because those were the only way you could get turbo + automatic in that chassis Impreza. (Also it has to be white, no friggin' blue or black or especially red)

I parked beside an '04 WRX the other day and it was an auto?

I have an N/A with the manual, it's fun to drive on dirt just like every car is fun to drive on the dirt. if you have to travel to race I would just get an outback and save some cash. You end up putting every thing in the back seat when you stop so it doesn't get stolen.

The passthrough from the bed to the cab is tiny. I prefer to pick up lumber in my outback. I love my Baja but it is a comprise car.

Yes, I believe you could get automatic for all years of the GD chassis. '08-11 is the GE (GR? There's four codes depending on widebody or not, wagon or not) chassis, which I would prefer because I think the body design is a lot less rust prone. They also have much nicer interiors.
