Well, I did it. I took the daily driver to the 1.5 mile club track at Daytona for the SCCA PDX event. First thing is that I had a freaking blast! Man that was fun. I came from the world of dirt track and 1/2 mile asphalt cars back in the 80's and 90's, and I found out quickly that turning right and left was going to be a challenge for me. I guess that is why I shined on the one left hand turn on the track. I hit it about 99% of the time with precision. Turn one, which is the big U just ate me up all day. I could not get consistent on entry to save my life. I would catch the Miata crowd at the entry, go in early and watch them pull away on the exit while I was eating up every inch of curb on the exit of the turn. I had one kick ass instructor and he was patiently trying to work with me on my inconsistencies.
I made three sessions before the weather brought it all to a halt. I learned a lot about myself, the car, and road course driving. I fell in love with the entire thing and can't wait to do it again. I am hoping to make it to Sebring to get that done and get my solo sign off.
AT any rate, I am hooked! If you can find a club near you that does the PDX events, go do it!
Now, GRM people... I need steeckers!
