Think I'll keep the rav and put the upgrade difference into a set of wheels for towing/work for me.Found a 2005 Nissan V6 nismo edition and a 2003 SR5 4 runner V8(only has 98kms,60k miles),leaning towards the 4runner actually and its 2k cheaper. Thoughts, what to look for in either besides the obvious fooked rad in the frontier?.

Overall both are great trucks....having owned Toyota and Nissan products, both are good however Toyota is just a better built truck and will be a better investment in the longrun....I vote Toyota....

If you decide to look at a newer Tacoma....I have a 2012 TRD Sport Double Cab-Short box(silver 6-speed)4wd with matching Jason Shell, hitting the market soon, picking up a fellow GRM member's 4runner....

It was an exceptional truck - absolutely stone reliable, and having worked on all manner of cars for a long, long time, I was very impressed with the engineering, ergonomics, and most of all the build quality. Bottom line: Toyota makes excellent appliance vehicles, full stop. After it was balled up on the way to Summit Point, my clean-sheet replacement vehicle search ended w/ an '05 4Runner Sport V8 - essentially my Tacoma w/ more motor and brakes and with my stuff riding inside with me rather than under a leaky cap. When's the last time someone said "Man, you want stellar build quality, you buy yourself a Nissan"?

Thanks for the heads up,did further research comparing the taco/frontier and the 4 runner and with all the issues regarding the frontier driveline and the price of taco/tundras I bought the 2003 SR5 V8 today. In decent condition with only 60k miles, drove tight as a drum and that drivetrain is smooooth.Too be safe I'll book it in at the dealer for timing belt, water pump and general once over.

Timing belt isn't needed until 90k miles, unless you just want to do it anyway.

Down here at the indy shop I trust, the estimate I got to change all that along with coolant flush, new serpentine belt, new tensioners, etc was around $1300.

In reply to z31maniac:

Yeah but age becomes a factor too right?,truck is 11 yrs old and I think it was 90k miles or 6 yrs.Interference motor and I noticed the coolant tank is down a bit,it was pouring rain today so I didn't crawl under it looking for a water pump weep. I'd like to not spend the loot right no but putting a motor in it(with likely more than it has now and needing a belt anyways so) after just getting it would suck more.
