Whoa talk about a sleeper in a 300ZX TT you can plant your foot and the tires will light up when the boost kicks in, in 1st, 2nd or even 3rd gear...and this is a lighter car

I'm a bit surprised at the quarter mile time....

Swank Force One (the car) ran faster than that with a badly slipping clutch, no traction, and an obscenely hot track, and only weighing 200lbs less.

I KNOW i'm not making 560hp.

I'm guessing you still have a lot more traction than that thing would...

I don't really see the point, personally... a 2.3 turbo 500 hp build would get me more excited. And the bit about that engine being so much lighter than an american v8 is pure BS. I guarantee you a vg30dett with all the turbos and plumbing weighs more than an ls1.

What was your trap speed? 108 is pretty damn high for a 14 second 1/4 isn't it?

its pretty high but its not like crazy high. I was thinking about that too. I mean an AWD car with a perfect launch that runs a 13 second quarter mile can get up to near 120 if they are making some more. I think my friends lightly modded evo ran a 12.8 at 118?

But the article states he was spinning the tires in 4th... stock vg30dett's have some turbo lag, with bigger turbos, even worse. I'm guessing that one is boil or bog, I think is what they call it in the magazines.

108 mph trap could be mid 12's with traction. That's quick.

yeah, the 2.3T is capable of 500hp easy.

and as for traction. my $2003 2.3T Opel GT ran a 12.9 @ 127mph, it was a solid 10 second car with that trap speed, but I had NO traction. (3.0sec 60ft times!)

I hit 108 on my second fastest run down there. 2.6 60'. Fastest run was a 13.8 @ 105. Spinning well into 3rd.

The car has gone 13.12 @ 118 in better conditions, goal this year is a 130mph trap and I won't make over 400whp.

Y'all need to remember the car in question was built over 20 years ago...

Javelin is right. That's a copy of an article from back in the day when Merkurs were still being sold as new.

Ah so in addition to old tires, also hideously inflated dyno numbers.

More like a very peaky motor. Think of a dyno graph that shows 150-200HP from3K to 6K, then suddenly it's 500HPOMGWTFBBQ!!! Lag like a mutha.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Sorry but the VG30DETT it over rated, over priced and over engineered. I'm a Nissan/Datsun guy but I'd have kept the 2.3 Turboford.

550 hp + 2800 lbs = 108 trap?

My ~520 hp, 3400 lb ZR-1 trapped 123-124, before a recent motor refresh.

I must be under-rating my HP by 200 or so... LOL
