I've got a 2016 WRX that I love. It's a base model but I have a 16 mile round trip each day that it's perfect for. The WRX is a blast and recently has a new clutch thanks to a bad throw out bearing and what was found to be a bad pressure plate as well. The dealer that performed the warranty work had an S2000 on the lot and took it for a spin. I forgot how awesome these cars are and actually having an engaging and acoustically pleasing engine noise compared to the quietness of the WRX made me grin. The wife is even on board (basically because she thinks we have the same car now - I recently bought her a Forester XT). Pros - getting some money back in my pocket, VTAK w/ 9k redline, very fun to drive car, RWD is always fun, and can still beat brand new FR-S/BRZ/GT86, and Miatas in everything. Cons - losing cargo space and passenger capacity in our fun car (like to tote children around every now and then), soft top/convertible, 14 year old car vs 1 year old car, insurance is $6 more a month.
No? I would trade a wrx for an S2000 so there's that.
S2000 ftw. Wrx ftl. Subie makes cars that don't do anything very well. Honda makes (ok, "made") cars that were very good at one certain thing. The s2k ended up doing literally everything well except driving on snow.

I have zero use in my life for a car with two seats unless it is a completion only vehicle. I will be the no vote to this point. Keep the WRX.
I would make that trade every time, including as a winter daily driver.
S2000 is an awesome car. The WRX is a good DD. Tough call.
I don't think you came to the right place to be talked out of that trade. Getting the car you want and some money in your back pocket seems like a win-win scenario to me. You have the Forester XT for fun with the kids.
The S2000 is a car I want to own before they all either get used up or turned into garage queens.
I'm Voting S2k, and I am even thinking of getting a 17 WRX when we turn the Jetta back in to VW for the TDI thing....
I DD'd Miatas for years, so you'll get no argument from me.
As long as you're under 6 foot and not fat, S2K will be just fine.
As someone who went the opposite direction (Miata to Evo) I think you're nuts, but neither car is a 'bad choice'
As far as making the trade, all I have to say is DO IT!
Both are terrible choices.... but after your last thread freaking out about the clutch and how it won't be stock we all knew this car would be gone soon.
Polar opposites here. One is roomy, 4 seat sedan with great grip and power. The other is an S2K... not made for real people, no torque, and hope you never have to bring a spare set of tires with you.
I go through cars on a yearly basis anyways and its been about 12 months with this WRX. The clutch actually feels much better after the repair. I don't feel like I'm rowing through rocks. I literally only use my WRX for driving to work. Everything else is in the Fit or FXT.
I vote to do it! Though, if you're going to be using the S2000 for commuting, you're insane. That being said, I love commuting in my S2000, but I really only do it when I'm headed up the mountain roads after work anyway.
9,000 rpm redline, so it's an AP1, which is even more gutless than the AP2. The lack of torque is terrible for commuting, you'll be shifting every 3 seconds, the top will get slashed and they'll steal your seats + steering wheel.
edit: it'll also kick your dog and spam your email

Couldn't pay me to give up that much torque and space.
I would make that trade all day long. It's not even a close call.
Installing a reliable drivetrain and cutting the roof of the wrx sounds like a win win.
Go for it!
Since you already have the family truckster you might as well get the toy you always wanted.
A sub-3k pound car with a 2.0L 4cyl, that at it's best provides a sonorous and engaging driving experience, and at it's worst pulls no worse than any other sub-3k pound car with a 2.0L 4cyl...Oh noes!! How ever will you be able to navigate traffic in something so woefully anemic?!?
Oh wait: My 1.6L Miata daily driver had no trouble keeping up with or beating 99.9% of traffic, and my 1.5L Fit daily driver similarly has no trouble keeping up with or beating 99.9% of traffic. Nevermind. LOL
As long as there is a primary appliance and backup appliance, I see little need for further 'practical' cars...Even if used as a daily driver. So if given the choice, I would definitely rather have the S2k to drive.

Love the S2k's. Only point I can think of is high insurance rates due to their theft rate.

Went from a z28 to an s2000. Lack of torque is a non-issue. I frequently commuted with it in the DC area with no problem. I enjoyed every minute driving that car. I have a 911 now and I still miss my s2000.

Wait, doesn't your Kia have a fair amount of torque? 167lb-ft from the factory. And the S2000 makes 162lb-ft from the factory. Doesn't seem like a huge discrepancy.
Seriously the only downside of my S2K was A) soft top replacement ($$$) and B) paranoia that I or someone else would ding up the most beautiful car I owned.
I would immediately go to a square wheel/tire setup and a larger front bar though. The stagger annoys me
I'm for the trade. I don't love Subarus and their problematic pancake engines. I do love S2000s and their great shifters, excellent steering and handling, and reliability. I do DD an NA Miata though.

I have 17x9 RPF1s in 245/40/17 Hankook RS-3s sitting in the garage.
Insurance quote is $6 cheaper a month than the WRX!
Only mods would be hardtop, brake fluid/pads/rotors, front bar, intake, and a roll bar so I can take it to the occasional track day when I don't feel like beating on the chump car.
