My wife saw one that I am going to guess was a 2007 or 2008. She has seen them before and not batted an eye but this one was a station wagon and I have to admit it was a pretty nice looking car. She has decided that should replace our aging mini van. They are pretty cheap which I like, and probably more Ford than Jag so most likely reasonably reliable? Any reason to stay away?

Was it this one?

If it was a wagon it was most likely an X-Type as amg_rx7 suggested. The X series (X300 and so on) are the XJ sedans, which is an entirely different beast.

X-types are fancy Contours. They are AWD because Jaguar did not want to sell any cars that didn't power the rear wheels.

This is neither good nor bad, it's what they are.

I like 'em. Wagons are rare and manual transmission are unicorns.

So wait...

If I read that C&D article correctly, it's an AWD wagon that comes with a manual that has the Mazda 3.0 (aka the Duratec) V6? If so, that is pretty cool.

A family friend who is into Jags has one of these as his DD. He bought it new, and he loves it.

Got a friend who has one (non wagon). He hasn't had it long enough to know how reliable it is, but it does have a certain swag to it . . .

That is the one. Seems like a lot of street credability for $10000.00. Not too many for sale, but I have already started poking around.

I like them, especially in "sport" trim. Hard to find those wagons though. My only gripe is the same as with the low spec "S-type", they a bit of a down market tinge to them.

I honestly think the X-type looks WAY better than the S-type. AND, bonus, it's NOT related to the damn Lincoln LS! I'd way rather have a jaguar contour than a jaguar LS.

Jag parts = $$$$$x$$$$$/$$$$

Aside from that my former MIL had one and it was not bad tbh.

In reply to JtspellS:

yea that. Fortunately the only real problems are in the console. The rest is mostly by Ford. The contour and mystique were fun little cars. The clutch is really strange though, wouldn't matter if you want an auto though.

My father has a 2003 or so X type sedan. Handles awesome but the stereo kinda went weird, only the right half works. The Jag dealer decided he wanted to replace the entire console because it is sort of integrated, which is insane. We laughed at him to his face.

And the mechanical bits are all Ford, so if you avoid the Jag dealer repairs shouldn't be too bad.

He has had it for 8 or 9 years? It has been reliable, I think the ac went once, but that is the only odd thing that happened. Other than that it has been great. But that clutch man, eww.
