I think you're going about this backwards. You need someone else to tune this, so find your tuner. Then ask him what he prefers to work with.

He gave me three choices. I did ask him first.
This was just me trying to glean some firsthand experience, not getting a whole lot, but there's some useful information in here at least.
Now i'm just learning about other standalones i haven't heard of, which is useful for my next build, which i'll actually be putting on my big boy pants for and tuning myself.

We used it on our FSAE car last year, and I'm planning on buying one for my little M42 one of these days. I was very impressed with the interface, and I especially liked the ethernet connection to the laptop, rather than USB (or even serial). Never once had a connection problem. Apparently you can hook it up to a router and tune wirelessly, but we never tried it.
We actually had one fall out of the car and get run over, and it kept working for another few months. So apparently they're durable enough.

She drives it more often than i do. I don't want that phone call of "It's running like crap" or "it broke." (Though i already get the "it's running like crap" call everytime she drives it.)I don't think you'll get that level of reliability with a standalone aftermarket ECU, no matter who tunes it. Well, not unless you want her to call the tuner directly when it breaks. :)
I doubt it.
You'll likely be able to find a good base map that is 90% optimized and just have to go over that last little bit. Doesn't MS have an auto-tune type function now as well?
I'm not sure there is autotune built in, but I think there is software out there that does do some autotuning.

Well, looks like i'll be finding out with my 93.
Though i don't think she'll be wanting to drive that car for other reasons.
