Do you think those cars will increase in value more than just the usual inflation rate of the rest of our economy? Do they handle well? If no to both of the previous questions use the engine and the steering wheel and get a 5 speed from a dakota to make a Shelby Locost.

I do think they will increase in value, but I personally think they'll never top what they were originally purchased for... They will always be "neat" cars though with some healthy modifications from the factory.

I rented one when the were new, added a harness and entered it in an autocross. I won my class. I don't remember anything special about the handling as it was a pretty open course, but I remember being floored by the acceleration under boost. It was one of the first turbos I had driven.

Just after I graduated HS, in 89, my dad was looking for a car to replace the C900 Saab that I had rolled and we came across a Lancer Pacifica. I tried long and hard to talk him into getting that car but it ended up getting sold before he made up his mind.

Car looks complete and good to me. If price is good, just paint and clean it up. Finding new decals could be trouble though. Lack of proper wheels is a hit to the value as well. Mechanial bits should be fairly easy, same with interoir trim. Just the Shelby stuff is hard, but it's all there.

If we made a grassroots version of "Gone in 60 Seconds" .....I'm just gonna stop there...too weird even for me!

My partner from the GRM $2009 build we did owns an 87 CSX. Its on the short list of 'Coolest k-cars ever made', though some wont read anything good into that.

Factory handling was among the best of FWD cars in the 80s, although if you get an 89 CSX you get factory konis, iirc.

Also, its pretty easy to get about 250whp/300wtq out of the stock parts in the engine bay, excluding bigger injectors, exhaust, computer tune, etc.

FWIW its one of only 2 Shelby k-cars that i, a k-car lover of the highest order, actually want. The other is the shelby lancer.

Although my factory-stretch new yorker limo-thingy is actually far rarer than either...

Decals are easy as there is a vendor, Positive Impressions, which is licensed by Shelby to reproduce the decals for the Shelby-Dodge vehicles.

Interior trim is nearly impossible to find in good shape as it was only used on the 87 and 88 cars. 89 and later used slightly different pieces and shades.

That limo is awesome. Post an interior picture!

If you want a factory brochure for the limo I found this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1985-CHRYSLER-LIMOUSINE-FACTORY-BROCHURE-CHRYSLER-LIMO_W0QQitemZ360223113751QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Manuals_Literature?hash=item53def88217

Actually the only Shelby-Dodge to get Koni's from the factory was the 86 and 87 GLH-S, the rest received Monroe Formula GPs. Shelby decided to tone down the cars a bit and since Chrysler was raping him over the cost of the cars, he was likely trying to cut costs as well.

The 89 CSX-VNTs received bettery suspension tuning pieces (larger bars) and altered alignment specifications (look them up and use them on your base car and see a how much better it handles afterward)

They'll never compete with a GT350 mustang, but just having a Shelby badge will guarantee collectability.

I owned a 89 turbo Shadow and I really liked the car. I autocrossed it a few times during which I spend a large amount of the time smoking the inside wheel. Fun car, the CSX is a big upgrade on the ES I owned. But all the accessories broke around 80K - AC, power windows, switches, etc.... I owned the car for six years, that is my record for any one car for me so far. Great room in the hatchback.

Oddly, when the Shelby-Dodge showed up to a Shelby convention at Vegas, they all were lead around the track by Shelby in the Series 1. The Mustangs were behind the Series 1 and the Shelby-Dodges were behind the Mustangs.

Of course one lap in, Shelby takes off and the Mustangs try to keep up. The Mustangs start falling by the wayside with failures and then the Shelby-Dodge start passing the Mustangs that haven't failed yet. IT was a bit of a blood bath. Shelby even mentioned that he was proud of the Shelby-Dodges and that his GLH-S is one of his favorite cars.

Needless to say the Shelby-Dodge group doesn't get invited to any SAAC track days anymore ;)

Yet, the Shelby-Dodges that were built in Shelby's factory don't get any respect from the stickered up Ford Mustangs that were built in a Ford Factory along side Sally Secretary's Mustang.

The Cobra, the Daytona, the GT40, the Series 1, the Viper all are just cool in their own right and all seem to respect each other. Meanwhile the Mustangs and the Dodges can't seem to play well together.

Good catch on the shocks, i havent got all my facts straight on the special models since i dont think they're special enough for me to give a crap. My dodge Aries cost me $100 to buy and $400 to triple the power. The cheapest complete 87 csx thats worth messing with will be about a grand, and im so cheap i dont feel like paying a premium for it at this point. I bought the limo for $200. I did pay $1k for my spirit but it had right about $1k of new parts in it.

Anyway, if you end up with a CSX or a plain jane shadow or other k-car, you've got something with the potential to go fast for cheap. The stickers and emblems are just icing. Im really proud of the fact that my Aries actually has a big K emblem on it to denote its k-carness. If i had a shadow id like for it to have shelby emblems.

As long as Shelby dies before he completely ruins his name they will.

I love these absolutely groundbreaking cars. I went to a car show a few years back at the Larz Andersen Museum in Brookline MA, and it just happened to be Shelby day at the show (they do different themed shows every Sat. and Sun. throughout the summer). I was shocked at how many turbo Dodges and Shelby Dodges showed up. I got up close to a lot of them and talked to the owners. I actually got so caught up in Shelby Dodge-mania that I made my fiance sit through a lecture with Shelby's old parts manager from their HQ back in the 80's.

I couldn't believe all the cool stuff this guy was talking about!!! Composite wheels that were stronger than alloy wheels, computer map switching on their showroom stock cars, how the Lancer was supposed to compete with the beloved E30 M3, etc. Someday, before I'm done living, I want to get one of these cars. I really liked the Lancer and the composite wheel CSX car that they had there at the show.

Now will they be valued as much as the older Shelby cars, no way. But that's fine with me, because then they stay Grassrots affordable.

Although lets not forget that an '87 CSX recently sold for over 20K at BJ. The '86 Omni based GLHS's routinely sell for more than their original price in restored condition and the other "numbered" cars are also seeing some action price wise. I've run my '86 S cars at various Team Shelby events and have been welcomed with open arms by most of the Ford guys-even though I'm able to pass most of them on the track. 'Ol Shel hisself remarked that it was great to see my little Dodge "giving the Fords hell". He broke away from his support staff at the Terlingua event and enthusiastically signed the dash. Many of the Ford guys have been so impressed that they have considered trying to find nice examples of the breed.
