As long as each stand is well below its rated capacity, it's hard to see the point of more IMO.  Yeah, technically more would increase the safety margin, but with 4 reasonably-chosen stands the probability of a failure is so low in the first place that adding more would be meaningless.  It'd be like having two front doors on your home or something.

When I pull wheels while a car is on stands, I do set them under the car as well when possible.  Saves space in the garage while providing a backup if a stand fails or gets kicked out from under the car or something.  Never needed that backup, or heard of anyone I know needing it, but it feels good to have I guess.   cheeky
