+1 Found mine on craigslist on a random Sunday. You have to be able to pounce on deals as soon as they show up, or somebody else will. Have cash in hand.

I'm not sure if kijiji is popular in your area, but if it is, I set an alert so that any time anyone posts anything with miata in the title I get an email about it. I bought my last one as a result of this.

Florida is a great place for cheap Miatas. Find one on crazedlist.org, have a local GRM'er check it out for you, fly in, put the top down, drive home.

http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi or just go to jaxed site mash, it searches all of ebay and every city of craigslist all at once. there are other sites out there that do the same, but this one is mainly automotive

I think whats worse is that I don't even need a Miata right now and I have seen all of those ads.

Try Craigslook. Yes, not Craigslist

Hmm...one way tickets for under $100, rust free Miatas under $1500. Looks like I need to be saving up some money to replace my rusty Miata.

+1 for Craigslist.
I have bought 2 that I found there, including an $1800 '99, that became my $2009 Challenge car.

Also have bought one found in the $200X Classifieds.

Keep looking. This time of year especially in the Northern States, folks have lost their storage or don't want to store them again. Just picked up a rust free '92 off of CL with 112K miles for around $2000. A kid I know on the Miata.net forums just picked up a nice '90 with 140K and great service history for $1700. A '91 just came up on CL in the area for $1000. Only had 89K miles and just needed a new top. Be vigilant and you shall be rewarded. Some folks are completely unrealistic and you should demonstrate to them that they are by walking away. If he wants $5000 for a rusty car, he can keep it.

Depends on how ratty and how much work you wanna do. I just picked one up just a few hours from you out here in NJ for sub 1k pricing.

Sadly its probably going to leave too soon. Need to raise money for a trailer for the Wartburg, and the temptation to play with it and not the Wartburg is too strong.

But they are out here, just gotta be quick on the trigger when they show up.

I have about $2500 budgeted if that means a good running car for $2500 or a $1000 car that needs work Im good either way.

I drove one today and did all the checks from the miata.net FAQ the car checks out except for a few things: Yellowing and torn rear window Very ratty interior Copied key that only worked the driver door and iginiton

The car drove so nice except for the door arm rest that hits my leg as does the steering wheel I think those are my first two mods.

Is anybody in the area free to have a look over any of those Flordia cars for me?

JThw8 what does it need and how much are you looking for

I imagine there are GRM'ers in all of those areas. You may need to post a new thread though, looking for Fla help.

I would volunteer, but they are all at least 2 hours from me.

This one falls to the 2nd scenario although I dont have an exact price in mind yet (because I really want to keep it but cant justify it) its about a $1000 that needs work

Primarily the clutch needs to be redone, PO did something wrong (my guess is cheap replacement unit or put the disk in backwards) and it wont disengage.

Would need a new rear window and cosmetic work as well. Its a fun beater driver but probably not a good candidate if you are looking for a nice car.

Here's a $1K car, IMO. I don't know how far that is for you, but maybe a Texas GRM'er wouldn't mind taking a look to evaluate it if they're in the area.

You'll need to log in to post.
