Looking more and more like we'll be heading to Hawaii, so almost everything I own will be up for sale. I'll probably only ship 1 pod.So, cars, motorcycles, trucks, my project plane, tools, trailers and so on. I'll answer any questions and PMs are welcome
Are you really really sure? Island fever is a thing. Especially for long time mainlanders.
There is a bit of a car culture on the islands. I know there is a decent one at least on the big island at least.
I'm sure. My uncle lives there. He's my mom's last sibling. And between growing great pot. Ocean life, my parents health and some other stuff, a reset t my life seems like a good idea. Besides, housing there is noticeably cheaper than MD
Man, when it's time for me to move I don't know how that will work. I have just so much STUFF.
That said, I like cars, motorcycles, tools, trailers, trucks, etc. Should we just arrange a phone call?
We're here to help you buddy, you won't go without.

OMG, I'm in love. And I have a 76 project that I'll be selling
Which island are you moving to? I know that Maui, Kauai, and the big island racetracks. they are drag strips, so I don't know if they have any other kind of racing there. I've also heard of autocrosses happening on the islands as well.

It would be cool if all your vehicles sold for $15k or more to cover it.

As a former resident of Hawaii (I was a kid) I have nothing but positive comments about the place. The people and the scenary are great.
In reply to Datsun240ZGuy :
That's exactly the type of 2002 that I'd love to own.

Well, which side? I am going to guess Hilo side (eastern, wet side). There is definitely a car culture there. I even stopped by a car show near Hilo when I was there a few years ago, and ran into a group of hotrods touring up near the Kohala area (north side).
I had a friend who spent a number of years managing some of the federal parks on the Kona side. I am not a huge fan of the Kona side (dry side) since the weather / land is very dry (at least near the coast), similar to SoCal where I am, and of course there is the Vog... argh.
The Big Island is actually big enough (!) to do some actual semi-long distance driving / cruising on, and gas, I am pretty sure, is cheaper than CA.... (!!!!)
BTW, you WILL learn where the Costco is and how long it takes you to drive there. It is an important statistic to anyone who lives there! And yes, the hotdog and soda are $1.50 there! (quite popular as you can imagine!)
Yup, Hilo side. My uncle lives in Hilo.
Cherokee 180 that's a great airplane

I lived in PR until I was 14. Similar to Hawaii in that it is pretty much a state even if nobody admits it.
Islands are different than mainland. They have a palpable culture that is not the same as maniland USA
Don't know if "Island Time" in Hawaii is the same as the Caribbean version, but it is a thing. Some people have a hard time with it.
Islands are expensive.
You are always going to be from "away" and treated like a summer resident in some mainland summer resort towns.
Islands get smaller and smaller the longer you stay. Not a problem if you can afford to fly out at will, but that is the only way I would return to island living.
Tourism sucks from both ends and Hawaii is a tourist meca. This from watching tourist treat locals and local's opinions of tourist.
I do applaud the move. Life should be an adventure and this is certainly going to be an adventure for you. So go and create your own mo’olelo and report back.
My offer to help you sell your stuff still stands! Just let me know. You have my number

Really appreciate that!!!!!

I've actually thought about PR. The big island promotes off grid life, like PR.And PR is much closer to Europe, where, if I had the connections, I'd move!! My uncle lives in Hilo. He's the last sibling of either of my parents and the weather would help them a lot, I hope. My dad is 93 and my mom is 85. I'll be giving up a lot, possessions wise, but we really need a change and I'm hoping this is the change we need.

Just did this, heading E instead of W. It's a kick, in all the different ways that word could apply. If nothing else, the exercise of identifying what you REALLY REALLY need is quite valuable. Best of luck!
