My friend has a Merkur, and is going to need a heater core for his soon, we can't even get them at Advance, and he only found one through OPMD and it was $115.00. So I told him I'd hop on here and see if you guys knew of a cheaper place to find one at, even though I know most of you guys race yours and probably yank the stuff out anyway.

Done checked Rock Auto, and all the other major stores around here, and nothing.

Hummmmmm. Dang, it's been a while ago, but at the time, I think I was able to get it locally. I know with my Capri I took the old one to a radiator shop and they repaired it. Might be an option if you can't find another.

As I recall, as heater cores go, it was an easy job. Meaning, for a crappy job, it's not as crappy as some cars.

Good luck to your friend.

They are no longer made in the aftermarket. I purchased one that had been sitting on a shelf awhile from a local radiator supply warehouse (Bauer) many years ago.

The vehicle is totaled and by law you must deliver it to central Michigan ;)

Good luck with your hunt.

Give BAT Inc a peek. They specialize in parts for those cars.

How can you tell it is going to need a heater core?

I'd go bother the radiator shops or pull it and measure it out and find something similar. Ain't much to a heater core.

Check merkurmidwest.com for a good used one.

Depending on the source of the leak, a good radiator shop shoul be able to fix it.

If the tanks are metal, then the next option would be to find another core that matches the size and having your tanks moved over to it.

It's been about 20 years since I've had that done, so finding someone that knows enough( or is willing to put in the effort) may be tough.

It's just a little baby radiator. Take it out and take it to a radiator shop.
