This just popped up on my Google feed. Better go snap up all the remaining ones rotting on people's front lawn because nostalgia will drive the price up if they return to the US. I mean c'mon, who WOULDN'T want a new Yugo?!?!

Yugo to work
Yugo to the store
Yugo home
Article claims it's one of the worst cars ever. I think we've all forgotten the LeCar
What's the cheapest car you can buy in the US today? Plenty of room to slide a Yugo in under that and still have a bit of profit. People forget. I mean who ever thought Fiat would make a return to the states?

I think you can still buy a Mirage for 12k. The Versa is close to that and is a far far better car than the Mirage.
At where I used to work we had a fleet of new Versas for loaner cars. When I say they are better than the Mirage, I also mean that they are nice cars in general. Interior quality is great, ergonomics are great, they drive very well and almost feel sporty. Brakes are really good. The worst thing I can say about them is they have an extremely aggressive automatic braking feature when backing up that will sometimes slam the brakes when backing up over a change from concrete to asphalt.
So will it use derivative design of Fiat like the original and require the owner to stockpile drivetrains? Asking for a friend...
Fun fact, the Fiat 500L was made at the Fiat Kragujevac plant in Serbia, which is the same plant that made the original Yugo's in the 80's (as Zastava). The factory was bombed during the Kosovo war was modernized and reopened in 2012.
Kinda like the 500L and wouldn't turn one down if offered the right price, which would have to be VERY low.

Scott at Cold War Motors loves his Le Car. And he has impeccable taste for a guy who likes Exner-era Mopars.
A new Yugo is about the only new car that makes sense to me. I wish them all the luck.
It's..... It's a CAR!!!!
Would you look at that. No stupid jacked up ride height or knobly all terrain tires. It doesn't have the slightest nod to a CUV roofline. Just an honest to goodness car. I'd buy one just as appreciation for their effort
I am betting that those features mean it is vaporware though.
In reply to Trent :
I don't hate the looks at all. No idea if it'll drive and last more than 1K miles, but make it afforadable and see what happens. If nothing else, Midwest Bayless is in Columbus OH and will probably fix them. (A meet there once had 5 guys show up in Yugos.)
My roommate lost a Yugo once, wouldn't elaborate. Playing poker? Forgot where you left it? Bottom of the river with an Ford economy car in the trunk?

Is it just me, or does it have a BiTurbo look to it.
The more I look at that pic, the more I find to question. The way to door hangs over the rocker/skirt. The sort of rubbery look to the panels gives me a Zapcar feeling. It just looks a little too much like vacuum formed ABS.

Wait a dang minute! Did you assume I actually READ the article. Ain't nobody got any time for that! I skimmed some pictures so I am totally knowledgeable on the subject, right?

You're 10 years late. Both sticker for over $20k now and sell for $19k or so
I didn't need to read the story to know that was a scale model. The door and panel lines are filled with black panel liner. It's a trick used by model builders to give depth. And it just looks small. The reflections are off. What does it say in a time of computer renders that they're showing a scale model?
I like the looks of the model, but who knows how much will translate to a real car.
As for the original - calling it the worst car depends on your point of view. If all you wanted was a box that could take you to the store and back and you weren't worried about amenities, it was pretty adequate. My sister and her husband had two of them and they worked okay for them. My niece put one of them in the ditch and rolled it; my BIL hammered out some of the bigger dents and they kept it for a couple more years.

It's going to be a cheap as everyone hopes?
I kinda dig the look honestly.
