Too early to tell how far it is spreading, though.
My understanding is that this is pretty common through...basically all subaru engines ever. The novelty with the BRZ/GR86 was it being bad enough that it actually caused engine failures. Interestingly that seems to have more or less blown over. I don't pay super close attention but I haven't heard about any more engine failures lately. Or maybe they are still blowing up but dealers aren't pushing back on repairs so nobody's talking about it.
I think the Twins thing was way overblown, we are approaching 15k of the 2nd gen cars sold and only a handful of failures. And many think it's the RTV from the timing cover vs the oil pan.
I sent an email to my dealer last week about dropping the pan at the first oil change. They said they'd be happy to, but the cost to drop/inspect/reinstall would be $750. However, they said if they found RTV in the oil pickup all costs would be covered under warranty.

Maybe? The problem is that the pickup is a weird design. The actual screen is kinda recessed in the pickup tube, so you'd have to get to the tube, then get inside it.
On the twins, at least
A Subaru engine with potential oil starvation issues? You don't say!
At least it seems like an easy fix, unlike design flaws of the past, like when they built engines with unfinished crankshafts for a couple months back in 2008, or installed those oil line screens on the EJ25T that would clog up and starve the turbo of oil.
In reply to Tony Sestito :
Or installed PCV systems that would get sucked into the engine, or berked up the valve springs, or that brake recall, or that other brake recall, or or or or or...
Subaru.... jeez.

That's not an FA24 pickup, that looks like an EJ-series pickup (or stock FA20 pickup which looks similar). This is an FA24 pickup (with aftermarket baffle plate above it):
The screen is close to that bend in the middle where it widens.
