So on wifey's first day home I promised her a day for her....no Wartburg stuff.

But to back up. She went on a little scavenger hunt to find her "surprise" friday night when she got home. It ended in an empty garage bay which I thought would tip it off since anyone who has been here knows there's never an empty bay here. She was thrilled that I cleaned out a bay for her to park her DD in...rut roh...I opened the garage door for her to see her Thing parked outside. She's in love.

So anyway back to the day with the wife. She wants to drive this thing like NOW. So she gave me the day to go through the major systems to make sure it was ready. Adjusted the brakes, cleaned the cap and rotor, checked points. Cleaned the worlds grubbiest KN filters and noticed some fuel seepage at the lines. Went to check and they literally crumbled at my touch. Soooo spend the rest of my time running all new softlines for the fuel system, it was on my list anyway but I wasn't expecting them to be quite that bad. Took it out for a drive after that, runs good.

Back to the Wartburg tomorrow, trying to get cooling done and exhaust started...yeafun.

Good work! My wife just let me know she wants a type 2 bus. This is our 25th year of marriage. She's great with my car addiction and good with the aesthetics (she's an artist). Time to go type 2 shopping pretty soon. Wonder how hard a subie or p-car swap would be.

The engine swap part is a cakewalk. The cooling system swap part is not.

Oh yeah, and that Thing looks sweet as Fuchs. Seriously, I've always like those Things.
