So the 64 el Camino needs some load bags in the back.
Im broke.
I have an eBay coilover kit in storage. I see guys taking factory bilstein struts, cutting a groove for circlips and running the ebay coilover kit on miatas.
My thoughts are to cut the groove in the blazer bilstein shocks in the back, slide the coilover kit on, and leave an inch of airspace. Therefore, back needs to compress before the load assistance coilover comes into play.
Will this even work? If so, what do I use to cut the groove? Or should I use a muffler clamp?
This is not for towing. More like engine and lumber hauling. The truck rides and handles amazingly, and I don't want to screw it up.

Those options would lift the back end, or require install every time I need to haul a load. So they are out. Im looking for something more on demand and no thought/planning required.
Air shocks are only a couple dollars cheaper than in coil load bags, and I don't have the money.

I think it could work, but you would want to figure out a way to stop them from rattling like crazy when you aren't loaded.
Did not think of rattle. But I found something similar: http://m.oreillyauto.com/mt/www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/SPR4/140490/N0146.oap?ck=Search_N0146_SPR_-1_3913&mn=Superior&mc=SPR&pt=N0146&ppt=C0339
So it seems like proof that the concept will work. ...

Any reason you can't use regular old helper springs?
Its coil sprung rear. And I don't already have them.

Large progressive bump stops from the junkyard and then bolted in place?
Edit: I know you don't have these but they might be a cheap junkyard solution.
