The Neon ACR I bought a few weeks ago is easily the most problematic car I've owned. The guages need to be resoldered, it has a slight valve cover gasket leak, a major headgasket leak, the throwout bearing rattles, has oil in the coolant, the wipers stopped working, the blower stopped working, the shifter bushings are worn, it's missing one lug stud at each of the passenger wheels, worn suspension, and the usual Neon cosmetic issues. Oh, and it also needs a new battery temp sensor, has a vacuum leak, and needs new O2 sensors, per the idiot lights. Needless to say, the previous owner only mentioned a few of these problems, and I was far too trusting when I purchased the car. Live and learn, I guess. How much is this car worth? I don't really have the time, space, or interest to waste working on it too much, but I also can't justify spending more than the car is worth on repairs. I planned on dealing with it for awhile, but the blower and wipers going out was pretty much the last straw.
sorry to hear. I'm no help.

I'm just pissed off and venting. Car will get traded in or sold or something; I'm too old and work in too much of a professional environment to have to call and say that I'll be late because my windshield wipers stopped working on the way to work. Bleh.
where are you at and how much do you want for it?
and it is on 2008 classifieds

Sounds like the usual Neon issues (except for the wipers,).
While the 1st gen ACRs had a great reputation for being a factory performance car, most of them have been wrung out by this time. Occasionally one will show up that is in good shape, but they're getting pretty rare to find.
I just realized that it's an NYG ACR, which in the Neon community, is about the rarest of the rare, production-wise. That's where the value is. It's all about the color.
I would run an ad in the cars for sale forum of neons.org, and ask a little more for it. There are some hard core Neon fans on there. I'm one of 'em, and in better economic times, would buy it to complete my NYG collection, but right now I can't justify getting another one, Damn.
If its a NYG ACR, it shouldnt be hard to sell for around $1k to someone who will be quite happy to get it. My suggestion would be if you dont want to fix it, just put it up for sale, and dont buy anymore old cars. lol Most of the cars that people have good things to say about turn out to be a little more worn out than you might expect once you actually buy one.

My current daily driver that the Neon was supposed to replace is an FB rx7 with 230k miles on it. I'm not afraid of old cars. The Neon just doesn't have that quality that makes me willing to deal with it's issues.
I guess you just have to pick what you are willing to deal with. I have a NYG ACR sitting in the driveway, and it had most of those problems, but i still thought it was a good car. On the other hand, I wouldnt buy an RX7 due to smog issues ( i live in cali). I think replacing the cats on one is close to $2k isnt it? But either way, cheap cars that were fun when they were new arent usually in great shape 10+ years later. The NYG ACR shouldnt be hard to sell though.

My Rx7 came from Cali and passed smog. I took care of that as soon as it came to SC

I agree. I almost bought this car...err...twice. too many projects, too little time.

I was told that. Well, I'm sure the previous owner didn't know the full condition of the car when he described it to me.

Previous owners rarely divulge those things, so it's a buyer beware sort of thing. The people who really want one of these things know what they are getting into.
Like I said, if I had the funds right now, I would love to add it to my collection, which would be a "hat trick", of sorts.. a Sports Coupe, a Sports Sedan, and an ACR: the only models available in the strange NitroYellowGreen color.
My first one was a white Sports Coupe, current one is a blue R/T Sedan. Still want to get my hands on a NYG, maybe a coupe and find a way to drop the body onto a RWD platform.
