Lets say, I want to buy a new Mazda 2 B Spec (i really cant though), who or where do i have to see/talk to about purchasing one? I think it would be an awesome street car, basically street legal race car, isnt it?

Mazdaspeed Motorsports. It has a catalog # like Ford racing does with the Boss 302R, Cobra Jet, etc.

You can actually physically order a full on Bspec? /me puts the ms3 up for sale....

Not quite. You can order a base Mazda2, add the Bilstein suspension kit, reflash the ECU, add appropriate tires and wheels, install a cage, and

Voila!

Mazda2 B-spec.

So far, I'm only on step 1. Until the series happens, you can have more fun skipping the cage part.

There's no single line item to order, because the formula hasn't been finalized. It will depend on the other cars in the series, the agreed rules, etc. The cars will be allowed more or less in terms of modifications to keep them all even. When the series happens, I suspect Javelin's catalog comment may become true.

Do they have VINs and titles? I could have sworn some of the other examples of cars like this did not. I agree - if so - awesome street cars. Find me that part number...

I'd only be guessing, but I think it could be less. I'm certain I could bring mine to B-spec stats for less than 20k all-in.

Are there any other manufacturers getting in on this other than Mazda and Honda? Its been awfully quiet about B spec since the original announcement a few months ago. There are a lot of subcompact options but all we have seen coverage of are these 2.

Nobody is really showing interest to SCCA and NASA. Neither have even released rulesets. Any idea why? There was even a scheduled date for the rulebook release, but that date has come and gone.

The official B-spec rules are still being debated and settled between multiple manufacturers and sanctioning bodies. I'm not surprised they're still negotiating; that's a lot of organizations trying to get things to suit their own needs.

In the meantime, B-spec is operating under SSC rules. As such, they held a B-spec race at Road Atlanta this weekend as part of the ARRC. Only one entrant made it, but it's probably pretty cool to claim the first trophy in a new series like this. Congratulations to Dave Wheeler and Voytek Burdzy from Advanced Autosports for breaking the ice!

B-Spec would be great fun on a dirt short track oval :P all the drivers should be 15 years old though.

SCCA, NASA, Grand-Am, and World Challenge have all expressed interest in the B-Spec series. The question will be can they all agree (including the various manufacturers) on a single rules package?

Most of what you've heard (and this goes for me too) is rumor and hope. There were 4 manufacturers represented at the "official" test (Mazda, Ford, Fiat, and Honda) so the others that have been shown are behind the curve but certainly not ineligible. There's another test coming in January (?) so hopefully the other manufacturers who want to demonstrate their involvement will uhh...get involved. (C'mon, Kia/Toyota/Mini/Nissan/Chevorlet...)

The 1.4 Turbo in the Sonic is a good bit more powerful than the other B Spec cars, though the Sonic is a lot heavier. The Rio 5 matches its 138 hp, but has less torque.

Could you also add things like CorkSport sway bars and other bits?

Add this to the growing list of questions I have as soon as the rules are squared away. Actually, that was already on the list.

FWIW, according to Dave Wheeler they've messed with the car both with and without a rear bar and prefer it without. (note that they're using the Bilstein coilovers that are expected to be part of the b-spec package at this point.)

Cat-back exhaust is legal under SSC rules. Reports are that it doesn't make much more power, but at least is audible to the driver with a helmet on. (And I'm sure it weighs less too.)

Hi everyone. I am Dave Wheeler, owner/builder/crew chief for "The Allien" as we call our B-spec racer.

Here are some random thoughts based on my conversation with Tom Heath and what I read above.

There is no "kit" for the Mazda 2. As of today, everything is custom made. We designed the roll cage and once the specs are finalised we will offer a kit. The Bilstein package includes front coil over springs and struts and rear shocks and springs. The rear ride height is also adjustable using the supplied adjuster kit.

Other than the Bilstein package, we converted a lot of SM parts. We made our own 2.25 mandrel bent exhaust system. No real power gain, but at least we can hear the car.

Base price of the car is about $15,000. Untill the rules are set, I can not say for sure what a build would cost. My guess will be around $10,000 additional in parts and labor.

Are they fun on the track, HECK YEA. In the high speed sweepers found at Road Atlanta, the car just flows. The car actually has a longer wheel base than a Miata, giving great stability.

As of right now, the rules are not finalised. SCCA tested 4 cars (Mazda, Ford Fiesta, Honda FIT and the Fiat 500) at Grattan Raceway last month. I have heard another test is scheduled, but I do not know where or when. For 2012 club racing, the B-Spec cars will run as Showroom Stock C (SSC) with some more liberal modifications. Even those rules are not yet finalised.

Both World Challenge and Grand Am are rumored to be interested. The rumor is they will adopt the club racing rules. Making a pro series available for club racers.

Other potential cars are ; Kia, Mini and Sonic

I have several pix of the build process at www.mz2speed.com and on the Advanced Autosports facebook page. I have hundreds of pix from Road Atlanta, but it will be next week before I get them uploaded.

My car has gathered a lot of attention at both The ARRC and the Runoffs. Hopefully the powers to be will, get rules worked out soon. I have heard that a release at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show is likely.

Thanks for your comments Dave
