In my quest to get the the E21 to autocross, "on a budget" for the time being, I can drop the 8s/205s (200tw) from the Miata on there using spacers on the fronts.  Wheels are et25.

Stacking a couple cheapo Amazon spacers for a total of 16mm gets me about 1/8", or a touch less, clearance between the wheel and the tie rod end.

Requires stick on weights for balancing, but beyond that, is it enough?

Anybody have issues with wheel/tie rod end clearance at that distance while auto-x'ing?

I've been endurance racing with 1/8" clearance. I don't like it, but it's what I have.

What part of the tie rod? Will that clearance change through the steering range as the tie rod angle changes? If not, 3mm (1/8") clearance is fine as long as the wheels are reasonably round. Don't put wheel weights in that area.

I was thinking about that after I posted.

Because it's the outer most edge of the tie rod where the wheel lip bends itself perpendicular, I don't think it will, but I'll remount and test it.

I think I can run a 20mm spacer, but that will put the outside of the tire close to the fender lip (already rolled).

Fender spacing up front is a little tight, and that tie rod end making contact with the wheel is a big part of that limitation.

I'd use the spring seat clearance rule of being able to slip a credit card through the gap, which is about 2mm, but again you need to be sure the wheel is perfectly round and that balancing weights won't get in the way.

At least you'll know really quickly if your wheel bearings start to go.

That hurts to think about...

Or, as my boy says, that's a future me problem....
