Now that my youngest is out of day care and will be starting kindergarten, I have small car budget again. The problem is that I can't make my mind up. I miss my old Saab 900, but I have been thinking about a Miata. I would really like another air cooled VW, but they are getting out of my price range. Anybody here in central VA with any suggestions? Nothing is too unusual, but the budget is small, around $2000.

What do you want to DO with this project car? What needs does it need to fulfill?

There's a BG 323 in Annapolis, MD for $550 that's clean, straight, rust free and running. Pick it up, BP swap, refresh suspension bushings , add ground control coilovers and possibly bp+t bits or team m limited slip.

Miata would be the easy button, since it's a well known platform, and you could probably get a rust-free car without too much travel.

You can also get a Beetle in that condition without too much trouble.

Even a Kharman Ghia isn't unheard of, if you want a BIG project.

In reply to ebonyandivory:

Just something interesting to tinker on and drive on the weekends. Maybe finally try autocrossing.

I think I found what I'm looking for. Going to check it out this weekend.
