This is about a year after I had originally hoped to give it a shot, but I've finally gotten the MB 190E sorted enough (I hope) to bring it out for a rally-x.  Looking at the October one w/ SCCA DC region.  I know there's a bunch of peeps on here that are regulars there, so it will be good to meet some folks and give this thing a go.

Now, my question - when I bought the car, it had a set of mismatched 14" tires on it.  Up front was a pair of el cheapo, no name touring tires (something like 175/70R-14), and a pair of similarly no-name snow tires on the rear, but even smaller (175/60R-14 I think - def smaller than the fronts).   I also got a nice set of 16" MB forged wheels when I bought the car, so those are what I run now.  But I was planning on swapping back to the 14s for the rally-x.  My recollection is that the touring tires are of a recent-ish vintage - let's call it this decade - while the snows are from 2001 I think.

I think I can stuff the 14s in the car/trunk so I don't have to drive down/back on them.  But for the rally-x, which should I put where?  I'm not going to run out and get any new (or used for that matter) tires since it's my first attempt at this and the budget has been tight as of late.

I suppose I should also put the plastic belly pan back on?

Odd set up, but if you are going to run them, keep the snows on the drive wheels.   If you are planning on new tires for the 16"ers. then rallycross tires or all-terrain tires might be the way to go.

Snow tires on front, steering is good.

Agreed. You can control oversteer, you can't control understeer. And no one should ever not be in control on a course.

After driving FWD cars for years, under steer is controllable.   Even on ice.

Snows on the front for control, snows on the rear for hoonage.
