So here is my situation. I'm broke. But the autocrossing bug has bitten me so I'm trying to go as fast as I can for a cheaply as possible. To this end last year I bought a set of Spec Miata take offs for very little cash. I had a previous adventure with old slicks and had purchased a gallon of "Tire Power" tire softener. Last year when I first bolted on the used Hoosiers I noticed that they were good but not exceptional during the last couple of events.

At the end of the season I took them off and, following the instructions, treated the tires several times and bagged them up in contractor bags for the winter. This year I've only had them out for one event but (and I'd changed nothing else) moved up the standings 5-6 places at our local event.

Now I've been given a set of 275 HoHos (used up and heat cycled out) for test fitting. I'm gonna try to revive them with some tire snake oil and see how they do.

What I hear from the old hands and experienced racers is that tire treatments only last for one run but mine seemed good for all 7. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with reviving old tires?

For track days it is not much help.

it's definitely woken up old cycled out r comps in the past, for a short while at least. my only experience is with autocross but i imagine it would work somewhat equally with drag racing. can't say to track use but it's plausible the stuff 'cooks off' or simply tears through the softened layer really fast revealing the unpredictable under layer.
