So I've mentioned in the past here that I would love to have an old Ford pickup, say mid 70's, but they're really not up to towing the kind of weight I'd like. Mustang in an enclosed trailer.....maybe 7k lbs with tools, gear, and all the other crap you don't need but take anyway. It's pretty obvious this would be too much for most any 70's pickup. So, how hard would it be to buy something like this:

and then buy the running gear off this:

and make a 70s longbed dually Ford that was comfortable and safe for long road trips? I've seen that sort of thing in GM trucks, but never found them in Fords.

The brakes would have to be upgraded. Custom fenders on the old bed would be needed. I think a 460 v8 and a C6 trans would pull anything.

What's it take to put the dual axle under the old truck?

Probably just a pipe dream, but hey, it's raining and I'm bored.

I saw a 59 chevy impalla station wagon dropped onto a 3/4 ton truck frame once. Coolest tow rig ever. Of course he had 200k into it.

460 will pull anything. You may as well be pulling something, because they only get 8 mpg either way.
