Towing like a boss....

yeah, the two guys had to go reset the pump at least twice while I was there, lol.

I have a 24' boat with a 50-gallon tank and a 225 outboard. It hurts to fill that thing up, bad enough. My parents own a marina and I've seen boats there (especially big cruisers) put in $1000+ in diesel fuel at a single pumping.

I call.

The answer always wins. This was me last weekend. 350 Miles of highway passes and freeway at 70 MPH.

Impressive, but as a former sailboat racer, IDK if you win your call. I know how light a cat is, lol. A 17' Hobie only weighs about 500lbs including the trailer, haha....We used to drag them up and down the beach with 2 people by hand.

We towed our 17' Thistle (probably heavier) cross-country in a 1976 Audi 100, which has about the same power as that Miata, to boot (when I was a very youngster). I hear from dad that he had to do 60 all the way from coast to coast, haha...

broken 6cyl turbo e30 towed by a 4cyl e30 last weekend, lol. Not sure why Nick wouldn't tow him with the e28....some excuse about "no rear hooks" or something, lol

I was fueling my old 21' Grew and I looked over at the 42' Sea Ray beside me, then at the pump. I said Holy E36 M3 - the pump read $412 and was still going (this was over 12 years ago and gas was about $0.85 per litre). The lady on the boat asked me what I was reacting to. I pointed out the pump, she said, "Oh that's nothing - that it is just the port tank. We still have to fill the starboard one too!" She then went on to tell me it was about $750 per side. Gas on the water is close to twice that price now.

Its no wonder a lot of these boats are just floating cottages.

Sold the boat a few years back - pools and boats don't mix well.

There was a guy around here who used to tow a huge cigarette boat with a blown 39 Pontiac.

Twin 502s if I had to guess. At a 3500 rpm cruise I'm betting 10-15 GPH each. At WOT I'm betting 30+ GPH each.

So, $210.00 a hour if the fun switch is pushed to max.

When we're out on the river, my dad refers to those as "dollar boats". As in, it goes down the river sounding like "dollar.dollar.dollar.dollar.dollar..."

That boat makes that poor truck look ridiculous, though.

Years ago I had lunch on a 52' Hatteras. The owner thought he would impress us by telling us how he got ONE gallon per MINUTE! The thought of that still gives me chills.

When I worked at Mastercraft boats our biggest boat, the 280, could be had with twin 502's. Out on the lake with the lake testers one day with both engines wound out, I asked the lake tester how long the fuel would last. He said It'd be gone in about a half our

Father in law had a 31' Sea-Ray. We joked about the "$100 Burger". Taking it across the lake for lunch cost that much.

A guy in the 90's used to tow a 20' boat with his high-10 sec 70 El Camino.

If I didn't see it at New England Dragway I wouldn't believe it (high 10's without the boat obviously!)

If I could get something with a wet head and a mid berth, I would live on it. Otherwise the most I want is a square stern canoe with a 2-5 hp outboard.

Naw, everyone and their dog on GRM tows like that all the time. It's a perfectly safe thing to do
