As far as towing an enclosed trailer, is there much of a difference between towing a 30' enclosed versus a 36' enclosed?

Thanks, Marty

Wait for it......

6 feet?

Sorry, nothing helpful to add. However, I imagine if you are filling up that extra space it could make a considerable difference.

Just the additional weight...

I've towed a 22' enclosed 2 axel and a 30' enclosed 2 axel with similar weight and the mpg was identical. Felt the same as well.

I believe the main things that determine how hard the trailer is to tow are: Weight Axels open vs enclosed

The front drag area of the trailer is what kills towing and if I recall correctly v-nose vs flat front makes minimal differance as well.

The tongue weight may also change due to the axle position.

More side surface area will make it more susceptible to instability in windy conditions.

The couple extra feet might make it easier to back up, but if you have a new Ford truck, it'll do it for you.

Only if there is a boat ramp, and people to laugh at you.

Ok, I should have been clearer. I was wondering about the maneuverability aspect of it. Getting in and out of gas stations, parking lots, paddock spaces. That sort of thing. :)

I have towed a bunch with 16' and 18' open trailers and stepping up to the big boys has me thinking about a new learning curve.

There is a HUGE difference between a 16' and a 36'.

Not so much between a 30' and a 36'.

I have a 28' enclosed trailer (28' box, 36' overall) and it can be very tough getting in and out of gas stations and parking lots. Because of this, I have to choose carefully where I try and get gas. The truck stop stations are usually better (Pilot, Loves, etc) but not always.

Is this a track support vehicle?

That's pretty big to move around the paddock.

I tow my car on a tow dolly … that's another situation that you have to think twice about where you're going to pull in … sharp turns … backing up …

Yup, SWMBO is thinking it would be kind of nice to have one of those Work and Play toy haulers to stay at the track in. If thats what it takes to get me more track time I have to at least consider it. :)
