i have a friend who has a 1999 tacoma 4x4.this week the clutch linkage broke and he took it in for service to find that the linkage bar has broken near the end point and the bellhousing is broken. i have never ever heard of a bellhousing breaking before now under regular service (ie not rockclimbing, mud pitting, or other shinanigans) the truck was rear ended pretty significantly about 3 months ago. it was hit heard enough to total the jeep liberty that hit him and required the repair of a dent in the cab from where the truck bed crashed into it. my thought is that the accident caused a crack in the bellhousing that has gradually grown with continued service and the bellhousing breaking has caused stress to the linkage to cause a failure. however, i am no expert and have little to no specific knowledge on toyotas. anyone here on the board ever see, hear off, etc a toyota truck bellhousing and linkage breaking after 11 year off on street use? thanks!

doesnt sound suprising to me--I have a little 2wd 92 22r and the hydraylic clutch is pretty bulletproof, with a drop of grease in the cup now and then. hid bad in the ass and after 3 months of sporadic offroading shes cracked. thats a 4 to 6 hour job to replace. the trans comes out and the crank seal should get new W-Yr-I-T--parts arent cheap anymore--probably 5-700.00
