iPhones with optical stabilization experience jello video on track. They also are stuck with horrible 1hz gps. Older gopro used to have 10hz gps built in, which is what you want for timing, etc. Better video too. Unfortunately they like to overheat in enclosed environments, and older one chapter every 10minutes or so which makes shooting track sessions a PITA as you have to stitch them together.
Starting with whatever phone you have makes the most sense. If the video look okay you ad a gps puck. I'm partial to the insta360 action cams if you want one eventually. I'll never buy another gopro.
I have a Catalyst in my primary vehicle, and don't want to ensure the PITA of moving the entire system to my other vehicle.
To buy a second Catalyst windshield mount, remote camera, power and camera cable would be about $330.
Given how I'm not terribly impressed with the quality of iPhone 15 Pro video in Track Addict, and one needs an XGPS160 for more accurate iPhone GPS data for around $160, I might just spend the money to more easily utilize the Garmin. My other option is to use my GoPro Hero 10 and take the time to sync Hero 10 video with external GPS TrackAddict files in RaceRender, which I purchased a few years ago.
Or do I spend $460 for an Aim Solo II for its increased capabilities and sync that data with GoPro video in RaceRender?

Choosing between an iPhone and a GoPro is like choosing between herpes or gonorrhea.
That's easy: Gonorrhea is better. Easier to treat. (Yes, I'm a gynecologist...)

What is your objective in overlaying the data onto the video? The biggest problem with RaceRender is that it takes manual effort to sync the streams and then non-trivial time to re-render the video. One of the uses for data-on-video is reviewing it between sessions for driver improvement feedback, and the more friction you introduce to that the less useful it is.
If you just want to share a few videos on youtube with the data then RR works fine.
