A buddy of mine and his brother each road race 1990 civic SI hatches, class allows any dot tire but the track is old and pretty coarse so hoosiers are out.Ran Re11's last yr but lost out to a crx on RA1,I tried to talk him into RA1's before the start of last yr but he was afraid of the wear.

Ok so should he stick with the current crop of ultra high performance tires or jump to RA1's/NT01's?.I'm thinking NT01's for the dry and a set of RE11a's for wet days instead of trying to do both wet/dry with one tire and losing ground in both situations.

Interested to hear others thoughts,experiences.

A few years ago I ran a SpecMiata on the RA1s, they were the spec tire for the class at Waterford Hills. I used 6 tires over two and a half seasons of racing. Started with them shaved, but I can't remember to what level. That represents 15 race weekends of qualifying and 3 races. They're very durable tires.

RA1s are awesome, good in the wet and pretty good in the dry. If you're going to be running in the dry and aren't concerned with water evacuation, the NT01 are faster. Consider the Maxxis RC1 and Toyo RR as well, although they don't even pretend to have a tread pattern. All will last pretty well and be forgiving.

RA1s are great, they last forever and don't heat cycle out. Conventional wisdom on miataturbo.net is that some of the newer ST tires (such as Rivals) are actually faster than RA1s at the track, but I haven't seen any back-to-back laptime data

I just ordered a set of RRs to use for the track.
