Just wondering if professional racers use types of traction control in their races, me and friend had an argument about that at some point and it has always bothered me not knowing. I found an article saying there are no more electronic driving aids in F1 but what about more tame series like Grand Am and such?

If i remember right there was an article about this in a semi recent GRM magazine. I think it found that the pro driver was faster without the aids so I would assume that most if not all dont use the aids. ABS might be an exception im not 100% though

I'm pretty sure the top tier road race series allow traction control, mostly because it would be hugely difficult to find it in the electronic maze that is a modern race car. Having said that, traction control on a race car is not the frightening overintrusive nanny that you get on the street- its usually just a system that will limit horsepower if it senses the wheels are accelerating faster than is reasonable. I don't think anybody uses any sort of stability control.

I could be entirely wrong on that, too.

As an aside, I had a Volvo XC90 in the shop the other day with a broken traction control. It was so much more pleasant to drive, and WAAAAY faster- it would break the tires loose at about 5000 rpm, which, not coincidentally, is the speed at which you get a VERY annoying lag when the TC is working.

Interesting to know - is there a fuse you can pull to defeat the TC in the XC90?

They just removed traction control off F1 cars in an attempt to slow them down so I'd say traction control makes you faster not slower.

When autocrossing traction control on a 350z makes you faster, but then the Z is a pig so faster is an oxymoron.

It feels a lot slower, but the timer doesn't lie.
