Well I went hunting on YouTube for Monte Carol rally news and unfortunately found that stage 1 was cancelled after Hayden Paddon went off, apparently a spectator fell and was injured and passed away later in hospital. I can’t imagine how bad everyone involved feels. I won’t comment on the cars or the rally here, just wanted people to remember it’s never 100% safe no matter what.

Tragic for all concerned and their families.

Never EVER stand on the outside of a corner at a rally.

I've never been comfortable with the way spectators can crowd the course. That goes for the Baja races as well.

If you read the original French news, the spectator died of a heart attack. Still sad, but in no direct way related to the accident. Probably got scared to see the car sliding towards him, had a heart attack and fell down.

They actually cancel stages if there are too many spectators now out on course but that still won't prevent things from happening.

If you are looking for it online Redbull TV is covering the events this year.

Hayden and Hyundai both reacted with incredible class, they should get a few points for being such gentlemen.

Med, doesn't bother me.

If you're willing to take the risk, you must be willing to deal with the consequences. If you're too dumb to recognize either......here's your Darwin Award.

And the link GameBoy posted said he was in an area he wasn't supposed to be to begin with taking pictures.

In reply to z31maniac:

I'd agree with you if the deaths occurred in a vacuum. Even if the dummy that died didn't have immediate family that has to live without him or her, what about the driver and co-driver and the likelihood of an enormous amount of guilt they'll feel. Most likely forever?

Similar to the suicide by cop or even suicide by train: someone's gonna feel pretty awful for a very long time.
