Last year I purchased and mounted a Draw Tite hitch mount on my Grand Vitara. This year I bought a three ball mount assembly at HF thinking the industry was standardized on them. When I tried to mount the ball mount I found the HF ball mount it was set up for a single 5/8" pin but the Draw Tite mount had two holes for 1/2" pins. I see Draw Tite offers ball mounts with a single hole--does that mean it's designed for using either hole in the mount?

It is designed to use only one hole. You also need to make sure your ball mount is rated for the load you are towing. (In addition to the receiver)
Not all 2" ball mounts are rated the same.

But there's two different pin sizes depending on the hitch mount manufacturer? Seriously?
Pretty sure a Class III hitch is 1/2" and a Class IV is 5/8". My pin lock came with a sleeve to be used on either.
*edit, It looks like 5/8" is standard on class III and IV and 1/2" is used for class I and II but with a 1 1/4" tube. Is the hole just covered in powdercoat so you can't get the pin through? Probably fine just drilling it to 5/8" IMO.
Nah, I'm virtually certain it's 1/2 vs 5/8. Okay, that helps, then. Thanks, mang.
I recently read or saw something that suggested that the difference between 2 classes of hitch that had the same size square hole (it was 1 1/4" in this case) was the depth of the pin hole from the opening, such that hitches of the wrong class wouldn't stick in far enough to get a pin in them and that was supposed to prevent people from using something of too light a weight rating. At least, that's what i inferred from some little tidbit i saw looking at the instructions for a hitch online. Would explain the two holes as that would mean it could be used with 2 different classes of hitch.
I haven't actually noticed or experienced one size of square hole (1 1/4 or 2") having two different possible pin diameters. That's news to me.
