Nissan trucks didn't get the DE until they got a name in 98 with the frontier. Only single cammed goodness.

As an owner of a 98 Frontier 4wd...I can tell you that the KA24DE is reliable and low (no) maintenance. It's also slow. This truck has no balls.
I had a '91 Nissan PU. I couldn't kill it. Even ramming a snow bank at 40MPH and high centering could not kill the truck. Granted it was only 8 years old when I did that. The farmer who saw it happen used his tractor to pull me down. I say go Nissan. I knew someone with that era Mazda Truck, it had no Zoom-Zoom if that is what you are expecting.
I bought a '94 Hardbody last fall. Dead nuts reliable. Slower acceleration than my 1.6L B13 Sentra. Couldn't peel the scum off warm rice pudding (no wheel spin = long tire life). Huge reputation for lasting a long, long, long time.
My old Nissan pickup truck (not a 4x4) was one of the best veicles I've ever owned. If the Nissan has a Z24 engine with 2 plugs per cylinder, they are prone to blowing head gaskets between #3 and #4 cylinders. Two other heads were in the machine shop same time as mine. The only reason I had to get rid of that truck is the frame rusted in half. I'm pretty sure the engine is still kicking around in someone else's truck to this day. Very reliable, tough, fun vehicle.

You're exactly right, Chris. He was using it while his Malibu (aka "Death-Bu") was getting the brakes fixed. Again.
I told him to buy it or give it back. He bought it... (it is a '90s F150 and I'm looking for something a little more gas efficient).
