I want to tap the end of the torsion bars on my track car to make it easier to re-index (so I can thread in a slide hammer and get them out of the end plate). My old bars were a complete bear to get out, and I would rather not have that experience again. The new bars already have a ~0.5" bore, probably from when they were made, I worry that if I attempt to thread them with hand tools, I will inevitably end up breaking bits and causing myself more headache. Anyone in the southern New Jersey area with a lathe willing to lend a hand would be appreciated.
