GRM needs to take a look.
Wow, nothing wasted out back. Super small overhangs all around. Sounds like Mustang 2.3L/6speed drivetrain! That then sort of implies Mustang rear axle. The picture doesn't show it but that makes me think this short car is also a relatively wide car (say wider than a NA Miata.)
In reply to John Welsh :
Two inches wider than an NA. Don't know about current Mustang, but a Fox body rear axle is the same width as an NB rear end.
The TRZ rides on the same base chassis design as the Cardinal Coupe.
The powertrain options are endless. but the factory recommended ones are VERY fast.
Full Disclosure; I've seen the TRZ body design prototype in person. The Fields family are friends and partners of my TA program with my Fit.
The TRZ will inherit everything great about the cardinal chassis, just packaged in an open top configuration.

No live axle here, it's essentially a S550 GT350 rear drivetrain, off the shelf diff, axles, hubs and bearings. with their own suspension design and uprights, same as the cardinal.
Is there anything beyond a nicely done CGI image? I'd wait to see a real car before getting too excited.
Looks like a neat package, although I'm not sure I'd use 'modern practicality/sensibility' in reference to a car with no apparent top, windows, doors, or trunk.
It's 7.5" narrower than an S550 Mustang. I realize they're already doing it with the Cardinal, but I am still kind of curious how they pull 3.75" off each side without shorter axles. Even assuming they better 'stance' the body to the tires, and run higher offset wheels, that still seems like a lot.
