So does anybody here have any idea on how to build exhausts with tone in mind. Power I can do, IE it flows well but tone is a different story.
I bought a spare factory R8 exhaust for like 100$, looks like this.
Internals look like this.
I would like to get eliminate the secondary cats and have a small crossover pipe internal to the box, 2.5inch seems to be the best for power according to the
Can I just copy say this design. Which does not drone to much in person and call it good.
Go for it, with the same design and the same type of muffler it should sound pretty much the same.
(I remember seeing that exact exhaust before, in a thread making fun of how expensive it was!)

5,200 bucks. Not counting install. Yeah I think I am going to make it myself. I have half a mind if it works to just build a quick jig and start selling the darn things. Its inside the OEM box and as long as I grind the welds on the box back up and coat it silver it will pass visual and smog in California which nobody offers if I can manage to keep the cats.
Great idea, I fully support anything which undercuts the $5200 exhaust makers
Just try to get the muffler type as close as possible, if it's a straight-through glasspack type even the density and type of packing material can make a difference in sound, I learned that one the hard way.

I just need to find some real short glass-pack's and straight pipe out using the valves as a full bypass.
Effectively I just have a monster v8 in the back and it should sound like that just it spins to 8.6K RPM
For drone I think I have enough space to get a branched system in there that is long enough, not so sure at the higher RPM's as I do not have a lot of experience scanning them on engines

Its funny you mention Helmholtz resonators. I fooled around with that on a VW exhaust and a couple of Subaru exhausts. Surprisingly it worked and the exhaust was noticeably quieter with no loss of power.
