for the g bodies lovers here is something different rather than getting the more common buick grand national or t type etc you could get one of these. The drawback that this is before performance on the buick v6 turbo really started shooting up but honestly it’s atleast on par or better then what the 305 had to offer then.

Saw a red one in a Tuscon junkyard in the early 90's. Still kick myself for not getting the scoop and gauges from it. I didn't open the hood so I have no idea about the motor.
A friend had one new in 81. Remember being impressed at how smoothly it would put you back in the seat accelerating and still keep up or edge ahead of V8's of the time.
There was a regal, oldmobile Cutlass and fwd Rivera with that engine too.
Had a neighbor with one of these a few years ago. I think the engine is the same mill used in Buick turbo coupes from 78-81 or maybe 82. Carbureted, unfortunately. I think Chevy dropped the option before the FI version came out. I don’t recall Olds offering it in the Cutlass but would be stoked to see one.
A friend of mine's Mom had a very early Turbo Regal. It had a small readout with lights that would go from yellow to red to indicate boost and Powah! It wasn't very fast, but in 1981 NOTHING new was very fast. I was eleven.....so yes, those lights were cool!

The turbo 301 firebirds had a similar setup with red lights located on the hood scoop

I'd imagine all these carb'd force fed motors were not all too reliable. Not to mention the miles of vacuum hoses under the hood and emissions junk. But that Pontiac 301 put out some impressive numbers (for the time). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_301_Turbo
Fuel Injection def helped change the game with anything forced induction by the early-mid 80's.

Fuel injection combined with intercoolers and pop off valves etc all helped improve turbo reliability.
