I do exactly that on the Escort's oil level. If I don't, the pickup uncovers on sustained hard right hand turns.

Either way it's a bonkers amount of oil.  The advantage could be very long change intervals if the owner wanted to figure out what really makes sense in that department.

~9 qts. Just a filter, crush ring and oil. I find it wierd how some are pushing for a spin on filter. WTF? I love how the insert can easily be cut down and checked for particles. Why would you go backwards to a spin on?

Older thread, but can I offer another perspective from an M96 owner?

My 2000 986 has a bit of timing chain rattle during cold start, and some lifter tick during the first few minutes of operation.

My last 3 oil changes have been Mobil 1 0W40 (European Forumula), Rotella T6, and Motul X-CESS 5W40.

As far as startup noise is concerned, the Rotella T6 has been the quietest, Motul was the worst.  Disappointed enough in the Motul that I considered pulling the plug and draining it after the first 100 miles.

OA from the Mobil 1 looked great.  Haven't received the results on the Rotella, yet.  Next oil change will be Rotella, or I may give the Lubri-Moly a shot.

I've seen that before.  It's definitely interesting but the whole "my proprietary super secret test method is better than all of the industry standards" thing makes me skeptical.  I have no idea if his test is better or not but the fact that he introduced it in an internet rant instead of at an SAE conference or in a scholarly paper raises some questions for me.  His post about H beam connecting rods (a topic I know a little about) also makes me question his credibility.

They are now selling a Kendall performance oil with higher zinc.  I seriously doubt it is the old green stuff.  Can’t find it locally so it would have to be ordered.
