Too far for me, but the listing caught my eye. I can't figure out whether it's a little too shady.
It's an E39 M5 that's high mileage, can't be test driven and has incomplete readiness monitors - which can also be the result of freshly reset codes. It also can't pass emissions anywhere that has emissions testing due to those incomplete monitors.
Definitely at the bottom end of the market, but it might be a good buy for someone who's not risk-adverse. I'd be surprised if it went a whole lot higher.
Haven't seen that color before, but there are a lot of really interesting M5s thanks to the personalization program. The wheels weren't that color originally, of course, but most M5s have refinished wheels by this point.
The question is, how much will somebody pay for a car in California with an out of state title, and emissions problems, that the Seller wont even eat them yard drive before buying.
But man, amazing interior.
I might have to go check that out this weekend. I don't register my cars in California or smog them. No Cali buyer would be able to get the car registered 100%. I've seen similar priced e39 m5's in worse shape by far.
ONLY problem is hiding the car, lol. Wife is under the assumption that a w220 s600 is next. Not a m5 and s600. I already have a car perma-parked at work under covered parking.
AIUI, it's technically not even legal to sell a car in CA without it having passed a smog test in the previous 60 days. The law explicitly says that it's the seller's responsibility.
Beautiful color. Did anyone think that it was one photo filter away from looking like a McDonalds promo car?
I'd say the price is about right. I actually prefer cars that are driven but miles seem to be critical on these as a price point. Ad to that tge issues listed and ones unknown..... These are expensive to fix and maintain. That said, wish I had the spare $$$

It's noteworthy that the car is for sale in CA but is wearing South Dakota plates.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
I did that for a while before I fixed a bunch of emissions issues on one of my cars so it would pass. It only works until your neighbors report you for the bounty offered by their emissions program I think it was $500 the last time I checked.
There's a lot of unknowns on that but he seems to be reasonably upfront about them, I'm sure there's more to the story however. I'd definitely plan for an additional $10k in funds though.

Pretty sure that those engines had a known issue with rod bearings.

LS TIME!!!!!!!
LS Time? I know you were probably joking, but that would totally defeat the whole point in owning and e60 M5 from my perspective... which is the V10.
I'me really digging the color on the M5 the original poster found. It looks so much better than the typical black or silver. I wish these were a bit cheaper.
