Is it a bad idea to piece together a brake hose from sections?  I mean flexible lines - not hard lines with unions.

Universal braided lines typically come with 3AN fittings, so I'd need metric adapters on either end.  This introduces a couple of extra spots for leaks, but is it realistically a risk?

My Fiesta has had steel braided lines with metric adapters on it for 20+ years without issue.

I have built upwards of 300 AN type brake hoses in the last 30 years and the only failures have occurred when the brake hose is the only thing retaining the hub assembly to the chassis. At least one continued to retain the wheel/ brake after the crash concluded.

This is the normal way of doing it.  They aren't DOT certified because of reasons I forget right now, might have been because you can disassemble an AN line and they don't like that?

I have purchased SS braided teflon brake lines with metric fittings already crimped on. Unless you already have all of the AN fittings and line why would you want to make them your self? I've done it both ways and if I can buy the line already made with metric fittings I won't use AN fittings and then metric adaptors.
