After 4 years of sitting on jackstands,my MX-3 is finally getting some action. The wheels, brakes, suspension bits are all off, and the interior is out. What's still salvageable, I've bead blasted (glass with aluminum oxide) and it looks great. Some of the hardware and brackets are off to be plated, the rest I've prepped and painted with POR-15. After years of searching, I finally sourced an original leather interior, and it's in great shape – driver's seat has a few cracks but the rears are absolutely mint.
Contemplating dropping the subframes, blasting and painting before installing new suspension bits. Other than the engine, all the other E36 M3 is out of the engine bay, which got a good cleanup and degreasing. What a great feeling it was to discover it was all in really great shape. Next to no rust whatsoever on all the important stuff.
Feels great to be actively involved in fixing my stuff again - even my beater has gotten a ton of work over the last while.
Hands look like E36 M3 though. Anyone know how to get POR-15 off a kneecap?
Give it time and it will come off in a few days.
Once it's cleaned up hit up Jim Pearce for suspension bits, I believe that Ben (Swank)ay have some of Jim's magic bits for sale.
Good thing you don't have a hootus!
Did POR-15 melt off your hootus?
I have a couple parts left from my '96 probe get that you might be able to use:
- Camber bolts for front struts;
- Underdrive crank pulley (assuming KL v6)
- 19mm rear bar from 626, was a bolt-on for the PGT, might not be for the MX3.

Hmmm... sounds interesting. I have the KLZE V6 now, which is a 2.5 litre. I'll check about the sway bar, that would be a big improvement.

Who's Jim Pearce? I have some new KYB struts I'm going to try, if I don't like them I may look for something better. Not much out there for these cars.

I've always just had to let POR wear off on it's own. Nasty stuff.
More importantly, how is it that there's no build thread for this?

I've been taking pics along the way - I'll get them up soon!
Thanks for the link. :-)
He also used to have welded A arms with hiem joints opposed to bushings in thr front. I'd email or call him about a set. Or surf feoa clubprotege for a set. I know that swank had a set of those ready to go.
