I don't want anything on my windshield, so I've been running a lap timing app on my phone and just left it in my pocket.  It works okay at best.  I was looking at how to make this work better and came across the Garmin Catalyst and a couple other solution but those are expensive and I don't have a good spot to mount it unless I give up my radio.  I remembered a Speed Academy video where they used a android head unit to display the cars videos and am wondering if you could do something similar with a lap timing app, external GPS, and bluetooth OBD scanner.  My worry is your are pairing a bunch of random electronics together that might not like being paired together.  The other thing is finding a head unit I you can use the Play Store on so you can install new apps.  Has anyone put together something like this?

So far what I've come up with is:

Android head unit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098JGW7ZC/?coliid=I1ZC8CQXJ8KMCH&colid=7IAQOSD435X2&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1

GPS receiver https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006M49G80/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

OBD bluetooth dongle https://tinyurl.com/2whmf67x

GoPro or similar mounted to a rear headrest

Kinda seems like a lot of work just to avoid having something on my windshield but I think it would be really cool to have the lap time and data on the radio.

Watching this, as I have had the same idea, only using an Android tablet mounted in the dashboard.
