V12 twin turbo? Here I come!

I just read this whole thread again and it is just a great read.

I am in the market for a luxury 4 door. I have been shopping JAG STRs but your s600 looks like it could be equally if not more fun. If I don't own a STR when you decide to sell I can see me wanting it. Looking at the photos of it I think it would actually be better than the STR as there appears to be much more rear leg room and with my boy growing like a weed and I do sometimes take several clients out with me the S600 would be a better fit. The STR back seat is ok but the leg room looks to be much less than the Merc.

Did you ever look in to the turbos on it?

The backseat in the s600 is awesome. They recline, are heated, lots of leg room etc. Whenever I drive it to work my co-workers nominate me to drive them to lunch.

I'm headed to the U.K. for work, but as soon as I get back I'm tearing into the s600 and rebuilding the turbos.

My 5.6SEL had the heated reclining rear seats along with curtains. Very decadent.

When are you coming back. I really enjoyed your thread now I want more updates. . And I am very serious about interest in the S600. If for no other reason I know that you have done most of the heavy lifting with the service of this thing.

Just for fun I went looking and there are two for sale in ny one in the 4K range and another in the 5k range both with just under 100k on the clock.

Are they 03 and up? If not that's the NA v12. I would highly recommend going for the 03 and up with the twin turbos.

Ahhhh. Truth in advertising. I looked again this morning and one said it was a tt but you read further and find that they say it is not. The other one is not. So no neither is a tt car. No wonder.

I know it is a different animal all together but for some reason the 90's retro AMG thing has me drooling.

I think the w140 coupes are UGLY. But, the v12 of that era was underated from the factory.

In keeping with the thread theme that fire truck needs a 12V73.

Also I saw a 500sl on CL for like 2500 and was sad.

I finally got back in town yesterday, so no real updates on the v12s. The CL did start right up when I got in it after 12 days of sitting and not being on a battery tender, so that was nice.

The firetruck, well let's just say if you leave your firetruck to go get a can of starting fluid either leave it in gear, use the emergency brake, chock the wheels, all of the above, any of the above, just do something! Today I found out what it feels like to walk away from your firetruck and walk back only to see it no longer where you left it...or even close. I'll upload pictures tomorrow, but will just say the damage was minimal, ESPECIALLY for how far it travelled and the grade. Those big bumpers are tough!

Whoops....find the firetruck.

Now, see the can of starting fluid on the bumper? I sat that down to take the following pic. The ironic thing is I didn't even need it....after depositing itself in the trees the firetruck decided to start right up and I drove it out!

Damage. It clipped the tree on the way in and light dent plus scratches on the right rear wheel house. Also, my right rear rotator fell off but didn't break.

What stopped it. The bumper actually cut into the tree some, but the bumper itself didn't really bend all that much.

So like I said it could have been a lot worse. The truck never left our property and damage was minimal. The cab etc was completely untouched and to get it out I just cut the wheel hard left in 1st low and eased her on out, so no additional damage.

I guess I've hijacked my own thread, but hopefully I'll have some v12 updates soon.

You seem to be living some sort of good of version of the dream that I like.

Time for an update. I'm almost 5k miles in now and have a couple of minor issues to report with the CL.

First, a month or so ago I noticed I was down on power, and I could hear the boost leak, so it was just a matter of finding it. The lower clamp on the deal below that feeds the intercooler to the throttle body was loose, so I went to tighten it and noticed it had blown out.

So I took it off and had this:

I got one used off eBay for $50 and was back in full boost in no time. Easy repair.

The other problem is a popping from the front end, which turned out to be this issue:

Basically the strut tops fail and you have too much play. Take it to a dealer and your in for a big repair bill because they want to replace the struts. However if you make your own bushings you can replace the slack, which is what I plan on doing. I should be able to knock this out over the weekend, so will post up the results.

So all in all the CL has been an excellent daily driver and makes the commute much more enjoyable. I'm going the opposite of most people and trading of gas mileage for comfort and performance. I generally get 17.5 to 18mpg and I am the farthest thing from a hyper miler.

Also, as if I can't get enough of high maintenance German beasts.....I'm currently trying to make a deal on a 450sel 6.9 with 'needs'. I've always wanted a 6.9, so really hope I get it!

Comfort and performance, straight up good fun.. and a sense of occasion and theater, are way more important than gas mileage.

Oh a w116 in Tennessee? How rusty is it? Love 6.9 cars.

There was a house in my neighborhood that had a brown 450 6.9 sitting out front for years, it looked just like the car from Ronin. I never saw anyone outside that house so I did not stop and talk to them and now the car is gone.

Not rusty and it presents well. Was/is part of a collection and stored inside, but has mechanical needs. Suspension of course and who knows what else, but the mechanical doesn't worry me.

I hope it has euro bumpers!

They're easy to work on even the suspension. If you can work on the cars you have now then you can work on a 6.9
